Dr. Manoj Gupta was a former Head of Materials Division of the Mechanical Engineering Department and Director designate of Materials Science and Engineering Initiative at NUS, Singapore. He did his Ph.D. from University of California, Irvine, USA (1992), and postdoctoral research at University of Alberta, Canada (1992). In August 2017 he was highlighted among Top 1% Scientist of the World Position by The Universal Scientific Education and Research Network and among 2.5% among scientists as per Researchgate. To his credit are: (i) Disintegrated Melt Deposition technique and (ii) Hybrid Microwave Sintering technique, an energy efficient solid-state processing method to synthesize alloys/micro/nano-composites. He has published over 585 peer reviewed journal papers and owns two US patents and one Trade Secret. His current h-index is 67, RG index is > 47 and citations are greater than 17000. He has also co-authored six books, published by John Wiley, Springer and MRF - USA. He is Editor-in-chief/Editor of twelve international peer reviewed journals. A multiple award winner, he actively collaborate/visit Japan, France, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, China, USA and India as a visiting researcher, professor and chair professor.

Prof. Elisabetta Comini earned her Laurea degree in Physics from University of Pisa working on crystals and spectroscopy in 1996; she then pursued her Ph.D. in Material science at the University of Brescia in 2000 on metal oxide thin films for chemical sensing. She received her Ph.D. degree in material science at the University of Brescia. She has been appointed assistant professor of physics of matter at Brescia University in 2001. She is now Full Professor in Physics at the University of Brescia. EC is a researcher specialist in the growth of metal oxides, particularly nanowires, thin films and the measurement of their electronic, functional and structural properties. EC was responsible of the research line on “Metal oxide nanocrystalline quasi-1D structures” at the SENSOR laboratory (Brescia University) since 2002 and now she is director of the Sensor lab (sensor.unibs.it). She serves as a reviewer for various international journals and she is part of the technical program committee of conferences in chemical sensing. Moreover, she was selected as Eurosensors Fellow in 2012. She was organizer of symposia within the MRS society, within E-MRS society meetings. She is Member of the Technical Program Committee of several conferences such as 6th IEEE SENSORS 2007, 7th IEEE SENSORS 2008, Eurosensors 2009 to 2020. She was one of the five co-chairs of the 2013 Fall Meeting of the Materials Research Society. She is a voting member of the steering committee of EUROSENSORS conference. She was promoter of 15 Ph.D., and supervisor of 30 undergraduate students. She has more than 500 communications, 130 invited communications at conferences and she has given more than 65 invited communications including 6 plenary talks. Lifeng Liu (Researcher ID: A-2522-2012, Orcid ID: 0000-0003-2732-7399) received his Bachelor degree in Applied Physics from Beijing Jiaotong University (2001), and both his Master (2004) and PhD (2007) degrees in Condensed Matter Physics from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He joined Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics in 2007, first working as a postdoctoral researcher and then as a staff scientist, under the supervision of the late Prof. Ulrich Goesele. He started his independent research career in 2008 and became a Group Leader in 2009. In 2011, he moved to the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) and set up a research group there, where his research now focuses on the development of new materials for use in electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices including (photo)electrochemical water splitting, rechargeable batteries and supercapacitors.

Prof. L. Q. “Rik” Wang received his PhD from University of Alberta, Canada, and is currently a Chair Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He also serves as the Director and the Chief Scientist for the Laboratory for Nanofluids and Thermal Engineering at the Zhejiang Institute of Research and Innovation (HKU-ZIRI), the University of Hong Kong. Prof. Wang has 24 years of HKU experience in transport phenomena, materials, nanotechnology, biotechnology, energy & environment, thermal & power engineering, and mathematics, and ~2 years of industry experience in technology and IP development/management/transfer as the Chief Scientist & the Global CTO. In addition to 70 funded projects of totalling US$>30M, 6 authored scholarly monographs/books, 4 edited scholarly monographs, 5 book chapters, 70+ keynote lectures at international conferences and 160+ invited lectures in universities/industries/organizations, Prof. Wang has published 470+ papers, many of which have been widely used by researchers all over the world, and been ranked amongst the top 1% of most-cited scientists according to Clarivate Analytics' Essential Science Indicator. Prof. Wang has also filed 30+ patents/software copyrights, and developed, with an international team consisting of about 100 scientists and engineers, a state-of-the-art thermal control system for the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) on the International Space Station (ISS) that ensures AMS and all its sub-detectors working at their designed temperatures ± 1 ℃ for an environment temperature variation from -40 ℃ to 60 ℃ every 90 minutes. Prof. Pagona Papakonstantinou has been educated in Greece (BSc (Hons) in Physics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) and Great Britain (PhD in magneto-optical recording from the Queen’s University Belfast (QUB)). After post -doctoral studies at QUB, Pagona worked as a research fellow at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser in Crete, pioneering the laser induced forward transfer technology and gained industrial experience as an R&D engineer at Analogue Devices. In 1998 she moved to Ulster University (UU) as a lecturer and since 2009 is Professor of Advanced Materials specializing in R&D of strategic novel materials and multifunctional hierarchical architectures for their implementation in health-care, energy and structural power sectors. Pagona has authored over 130 publications and her work has received over 8650 citations, with an H index of 43 (google scholar). She has received an invited Research Fellowship from the Royal Society of Chemistry (2014) through ‘Leaders in the Field’ scheme for her significant contributions to nanoscience and nanomaterials and a Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE)/Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship (2012).

Dr. Hua Zhang is the Herman Hu Chair Professor of Nanomaterials in the Department of Chemistry, City University of Hong Kong. His current research interests focus on phase engineering of nanomaterials (PEN) and controlled epitaxial growth of heterostructures, including the synthesis of ultrathin two-dimensional nanomaterials, novel metallic and semiconducting nanomaterials, novel amorphous nanomaterials, and their hybrid composites for various applications such as catalysis, clean energy, (opto-)electronic devices, chemical and biosensors, and water remediation. Professor Itamar Willner is a Professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. Andrey L. Rogach is a Chair Professor of Photonics Materials at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and the Founding Director of the Centre for Functional Photonics at City University of Hong Kong. He received his Ph.D. in chemistry (1995) from the Belarusian State University in Minsk (Belarus), and worked as a staff scientist at the University of Hamburg (Germany) from 1995 to 2002. From 2002–2009 he was a lead staff scientist at the University of Munich (Germany), where he completed his habilitation in experimental physics. His research focuses on synthesis, assembly and optical spectroscopy of colloidal semiconductor and metal nanocrystals and their hybrid structures, and their use for energy-related applications. He authored over 450 scientific publications (Google Scholar h-index: 112) in these fields that have been extensively (over 47,000) cited, which ranked him 51st worldwide among “100 TOP MATERIALS SCIENTISTS OF THE PAST DECADE” by Thomson Reuters (2011), and as Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics (2018 & 2019). Professor Guoxiu Wang is the Director of the Centre for Clean Energy Technology and a Distinguished Professor at University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia. He currently holds an ARC Professorial Future Fellowship. Professor Wang is an expert in materials chemistry, electrochemistry, energy storage and conversion, and battery technologies. His research interests include lithium-ion batteries, lithium-air batteries, sodium-ion batteries, lithium-sulfur batteries, supercapacitors, hydrogen storage materials, fuel-cells, graphene, and chemical functionalisation of graphene. Professor Yusuke Yamauchi received his Bachelor degree (2003), Master degree (2004), and Ph.D. (2007) from the Waseda University, Japan. Abraham J. Domb is a Professor for Medicinal Chemistry and Biopolymers at the School of Pharmacy- Faculty of Medicine and for Forensic Sciences at the faculty of Law of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He earned Bachelor’s degrees in Chemistry, Pharmaceutics and Law studies; Diplomas in Business management and Textile science and PhD degree in organic chemistry from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He did his postdoctoral training at MIT and Harvard Univ. Cambridge USA and was R&D manager at Nova Pharm. Co. Baltimore US during 1988-1991. Since 1991 he is a faculty member at the Hebrew university. During 2007-2012 he headed the Division of Forensic Science at the Israel Police, rank: Brigadier General. Radek Zbořil(*1973) was a former Director of Regional Centre of Advanced Technologies and Materials at Palacky University in Olomouc, Czech Republic (www.rcptm.com). After finishing the Ph.D. study (2000), he underwent several short-term stays e.g. at University of Delaware and University of Tokyo.Currently, he works as the head of the group at VSB Technical University Ostrava. He is co-authors of more than 500 publications and many books published by Springer, Wiley and American Chemical Society. His scientific focus is related to low-dimensional nanomaterials and their applications in medicine, energy and environmental technologies.Prof. Zbořilis co-inventor of many unique nanomaterials including e.g. non-metallic 1D conductors (Nature Nanotechnol. 2020), sustainable non-metallic 2D magnets and magnetic switchers (e.g. Nat.Commun. 2017;Nat. Chuan-Jian Zhong is professor of Chemistry and Materials Science and Engineering of the State University of New York at Binghamton, USA. His research interest focuses on interfacial chemistry, with emphases on understanding molecular interactions, catalytic processes, and chemical reactions related to sustainable energy production, conversion and storage (e.g., fuel cells and batteries), environmental sustainability (e.g., emission control), and chemical and biomolecular detection (e.g., sensors and biosensors). The research programs feature both fundamental sciences and practical applications, and involve approaches from interdisciplinary areas of analytical chemistry, materials chemistry, electrochemistry, catalysis, and nanotechnology. Before joining UCI as the Chancellor’s Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MEA), Dr. Madou was Vice President of Advanced Technology at Nanogen in San Diego. He specializes in the application of miniaturization technology to chemical and biological problems (BIO-MEMS). He is the author of several books in this burgeoning field he helped pioneer both in Academia and in Industry. He founded several micromachining companies and has been on the board of many more. Dr. Madou, today, works with research teams in India (IIT Kharagpur), Mexico (Tec de Monterrey), Malaysia (UM) and Germany (KIT). Dr. Wei Lu is Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and Director of research center: Advanced Battery Coalition for Drivetrains. He uses multi-scale and multi-physics approaches to analyze battery degradation. He has over 160 publications in peer-reviewed journals and over 100 presentations and invited talks in international conferences, universities and national labs including Harvard, MIT and Stanford. He also has plenty of publications in conference proceedings, encyclopedias and book chapters. Prof. Lu was the recipient of many awards including the CAREER award by the US National Science Foundation; the Robert J. McGrattan Award by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; Elected Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; Robert M. Caddell Memorial Research Achievement Award; Faculty Recognition Award; Department Achievement Award; Novelis/CoE Distinguished Professor Award; CoE Ted Kennedy Family Faculty Team Excellence Award; CoE George J. Hiroshi Mizuta, FInstP and CPhys, is now Vice President and Director of Global Excellent Core ‘Silent Voice Sensing’ Research Center, JAIST. He was awarded with Distinguished Professorship of JAIST in 2017 and also awarded for 2018 Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for his research on 'Hybrid electro-mechanical functional devices at nanoscale.

Dr. Fan received PhD from National University of Singapore in 2003. After that, he conducted postdoc research at Max-Planck-Institute of Microstructure Physics, Germany and University of Cambridge. Since 2008, Dr. Fan joined in Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and was promoted to full Professor in 2019. Dr. Fan works on exploring new nanomaterials for energy application, which includes electrocatalysis for energy conversion and new-generation battery materials and technologies. His group employs atomic layer deposition and RF plasma for these applications. Dr. Fan has published 243 journal papers and is recognized as Highly Cited Researchers consecutively since 2016 by Clarivate Analytics. Dr. Fan is currently Associate Editor of the journal Materials Today Energy.

Professor of Chemistry at North Carolina State University. He has also served as a Finland Distinguished Professor of Chemistry with the department of Chemstry of the University of Helsinki, Finland and Distinguished visiting Professor with the centre for Advanced Materials and the Department of Chemistry King Abdulaziz University, Jedah, Saudi Arabia. Professor Argyropoulos’s reserach team is internationally recognized for his leading contributions to Green Chemistry using cellulose and lignin wood-based polymers. Dr. Makoto Ogawa received his BS and MS degrees in Applied Chemistry from Waseda University in 1987 and 1989. His doctorate was earned at Waseda University in 1992 under the direction of Professor Chuzo Kato. After the PostDoctral study at The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN) as a special researcher for the basic science program, Science and Technology Agency, Japan, he moved to Department of Earth Sciences, Waseda University in 1995 where he became a Professor in 2004. He was a researcher of PRESTO, Japan Science and Technology Corporation (JST) from 1995 to 2000. From 2014, he moved to Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology (VISTEC) as a professor of School of Energy Science and Engineering. Presently, he is a council of International Association for the Study of Clays (AIPEA), Associate editor of Applied Clay Science and Recent Patens in Nanotechnology. He has authored more than 300 original research papers and several tens of reviews and book chapters. The number of citation is over 12,000 times and his present h-index is 57.

Dr. Hasan UludaÄŸ has been with the University of Alberta since 1997, currently based at the Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering. He holds joint appoints at the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and Faculty of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. UludaÄŸ is directing interdisciplinary research programs on experimental therapeutics, specifically focusing of designing functional biomaterials to realize the potential of nucleic acid therapies. His research activity is conducted in the context of bone regeneration and anti-cancer therapies. Dr. UludaÄŸ is actively involved in various biomaterials societies around the World and is an elected Fellow of the International Union of Society of Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IUS-BSE). He spent four years in an industrial setting (Genetics Institute Inc.; Boston, MA), where he contributed to development of a tissue engineered bone-inducing BMP device for clinical use.

Prof. Valtencir Zucolotto is a Full Professor at São Carlos Physics Institute, University of São Paulo, Brazil, and coordinator of the Nanomedicine and Nanotoxicology Group (GNano). He was Visiting Professor at University of Valladolid, Spain, in 2006, and at the Joseph Fourier University, Grenoble, France, in 2010. His main scientific interests are focused on Nanomedicine and Nanotoxicology, more specifically in the development of nanocomposites for Cancer diagnosis and therapy, and of highly sensitive biosensors (immuno- and genosensors) for infectious diseases diagnosis. Nanotoxicology studies at Prof. Zucolotto´s group comprise in vitro and in vivo analyses to evaluate the impact exhibited by nanomaterials on health, agriculture and environment. Prof. Zucolotto´s has authored more than 185 international, peer-reviewed papers, 15 book chapters and 20 patent filings. He has mentored dozens of graduate students and supervised more than 40 postdocs. Prof Zucolotto´s publications received more than 4900 citations, granting an H-factor of 40 (Scopus).

James Hwang is Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Cornell University. He graduated from the same department with a Ph.D. degree. After years of industrial experience at IBM, Bell Labs, GE, and GAIN, he spent most of his academic career at Lehigh University. He cofounded GAIN and QED; the latter became the public company IQE. He was a Program Officer at the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research for GHz-THz Electronics. He was a visiting professor at Cornell University in the US, Marche Polytechnic University in Italy, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. He is an IEEE Life Fellow and a Distinguished Microwave Lecturer. He is also a Track Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques. He has published approximately 400 refereed technical papers and been granted eight U.S. patents. He has researched the design, modeling and characterization of optical, electronic, and micro-electromechanical devices and circuits. His current research interest includes scanning microwave microscopy, two-dimensional atomic-layered materials and devices, and electromagnetic sensors for individual biological cells.

Prof. Oded Millo perforemd his Ph.D. research in Physics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, studying excitations at metallic surfaces. Was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Yale University, focusing there on quantum-transport and mesoscopic physics. He is now a full professor at the Racah Institute of Physics. His current research focuses on local-probe and transport studies of unconventional superconductivity (including high Tc and triplet-pairing superconductivity), nanostructured semiconductor systems (isolated nanocrystals and their assemnblies), as well asphoto-conductance properties of solar-cell materials. These works resulted inmore than 170 publications and h-index of 47.He was among the founders of the Hebrew University Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnologyand also served as the Head of Physics Department. Currently he is the Vice-Dean for Study Affairs at the Faculty of Sciences at the Hebrew University.Milloholds the Harry de Jur Chair in Applied Science, and he is a recipient of the IVSand the Young Reaserhers Landau prizes.

Prof. Shachar Richter (Ph.D. Materials Science and Chemical Physics, Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel) is the head of the Bioand Molecular Electronics Lab and a faculty member at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Tel Aviv University. After graduation, Prof. Richter was a post-doctorate fellow and later appointed as an independent staff member (MTS) at Bell-Laboratories and Agere Systems (NJ, USA). In 2001 he joined TelAviv University, where he established the Nanoelectronics lab at the Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, where he serves as a core member. In 2003 he joined as a faculty member at the School of Chemistry, and in 2013 he moved to the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. In 2017 he was a sabbatical professor at Monash University (Australia), and In 2019 he won the "distinguished visiting scientist award" of The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). His current research interests are jellyfish-based composites for medical and cosmetics applications, molecular and bioelectronics, bio-nano composites, and novel patterning technologies. Prof. Richter held several public roles, including heading the MSc in Materials Science and Engineering, Tel Aviv Universityserving as the President of the IVS (Israel Vacuum Society focusing on nanotechnology and surface science), Chair of the chemistry committee of the Standards Institute of Israel and more. He also serves on the editorial board of several journals. Some of his patents were licensed to companies and are in the process of commercialization.

Since 2001 I held a permanent position as a Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) researcher, most recently at the ICN2, where I am the leader of the ICN2 Nanostructured Functional Materials Group also known as Nanosfun. Our main research areas include the fabrication of hybrid colloids and surfaces, biomimetic functional nanostructures, and micro- or nanoparticles for smart applications and encapsulation and delivery systems.

Jae-Jin Shim received his BS degree from Seoul National University in Korea in 1980, MS degree from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 1982, and PhD degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1990. He worked as a research scientist (1982-1986) and as a senior research scientist (1991-1994) at Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST).He has been a professor at Yeungnam University since 1994 and served as School Chairman and Vice-Dean of Engineering. He also served as the President of the Korean Society of Clean Technology, Vice President of the Korean Society of Engineering Education, and a Local Chapter President of the Korean Institute of Chemical Engineers. He has been the Directors of the Institute of Clean Technology and the Clean Energy Priority Research Center supported by Ministry of Education of Korea. He has published 215 papers in reputed journals, filed 32 patents, and wrote or edited 14 books. He has served as the Chief Editor of “Clean Technology,”an Editor of “Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering,” and a Guest Editor of “Nanomaterials.”He has received the two Commendationsfor Engineering Education from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and for Excellence in National Research Project from Ministry of Science and ICT, Korea, the Glocal Leadership Award and Excellent Researcher Award from the President of Yeungnam University,and Scientific Contribution Awards from the Korean Society of Clean Technology. His current research interests are synthesis and applications of graphene(or carbon nanotube and carbon nano-onion)-based nanomaterials for energy storage (supercapacitors), catalysts, and sensors; syntheses of polymers and organic materials using supercritical fluids and ionic liquids; living polymerization in supercritical fluids and ionic liquids; and clean technology.Wide range of three dimensional oxides, sulfides, and phosphides of mono, binary, and ternary transition metals as well as 2D MOF, LDH, and MXene are being studied. Water splitting and wastewater treatment using heterojunction photocatalysts have also been studied.

Professor Crespilho received his BS in 2002 and MS in Chemistry in 2004 from the São Paulo University. He received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the same institution in 2007 withone-year stay as Visiting Researcher (2005-2006) at University of Coimbra (Portugal). He was Visiting Associate in Chemistry at California Institute of Technology, Caltech (EUA), in the Prof. Dr. J.K. Barton’s Group (2014-2015) and Visiting Professor at Max-Planck-Institute for Solid State Research, Stuttgart, Germany (2016). He was Visiting Professor at Harvard University at the lab of Prof. Michael Aziz (2018-2019). Since 2012, Crespilho is Professor of Physical-Chemistry at Chemistry Institute of São Carlos, and since 2019 he is fellow of the J. A. P. School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard University. Professor Crespilho’s research bridges the fields of physical-chemistry, bioelectrochemistry, and electrochemical-materials chemistry. Through his research Group, Professor Crespilho has trained more than 30 students, including undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers. His work focuses on in situ and operando spectroscopic-electrochemistry elucidation of the electron transfer mechanism involving redox enzyme, proteins, DNA, and microorganism. He studies electron transfer reactions, and for this he has been developing electrodes based on carbon structures, 2D materials, mesoporous and non-conventional hybrid-magnetic materials. As far as fundamental science is concerned, he has made contributions on the field of protein immobilization processes on solid surfaces, bio-electrocatalysis and coupling analytical tools to resolve electron transfer mechanism in proteins.The technological implications of his research include the development of efficient biomimetic catalysts, biomimetic materials for application in the field of energy, more efficient biofuel cells, organic and organometallic batteries that mimic redox biological processes, development of materials applied to mimetic sensors and biosensors.

Aires Ferreira obtained his PhD in physics from University of Porto, Portugal, in 2009. His topic wasquantum entanglement in macroscopic systems, with collaborative work performed at the IQOQI-Vienna, Austria. He then worked as a research fellow in condensed matter theory at the University ofMinho, Portugal (2009-2011) and the Graphene Research Centre, NUS, Singapore (2011-2014).Supported by a University Research Fellowship awarded by the Royal Society in 2014, Aires Ferreiraleads a researchgroupat the University of York, UK, where he is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics. His research focuses on the development and application of theoretical methodologiesto understand quantum criticality and emergent spin-orbit coupling transport phenomena in low-dimensional systems. He is the founding team leader of the open-source KITE initiative forquantum transportsimulations with billions ofatoms. From 2015, Dr Ferreira is a member of EPSRC’s Peer Review College.

Dr. Jiangtao Cheng received his Ph.D. degree in Physics from Purdue University in 2002. He also has a M.S. degree in Computer Science from Purdue University and a B.S. degree in Applied Physics from Peking University. Prior to joining the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech in 2015 as Associate Professor, Dr. Cheng was a research associate at the Pennsylvania State University and a research scientist at Teledyne Scientific Company (formerly Rockwell Science Center). He has served as the principal investigator of several research projects funded by DOE, NASA, DARPA and NSF respectively. He has authored/co‐authored more than 70 papers in journals and proceedings of conferences. Dr. Cheng has been on the editorial boards of four international journals. He has won numerous awards during his career including five times of Best Paper/Best Poster Awards in various international conferences and 2013 Outstanding Overseas Young Scholar Award from China NSF. In 2010, Dr. Cheng’s project “Optofluidic Solar Concentrators” was announced by the U.S. Department of Energy as one of the “six transformational energy research and development projects that could revolutionize how the country uses, stores, and produces energy”. In 2019, Dr. Cheng was elected as Virginia Tech Engineering Faculty Fellow. He has extensive experience in renewable energy, optofluidics, thermal-fluid sciences, micro/nano-fluidics, multiphase fluid flow, nano-fabrications and CFD numerical simulation.

Franck Cleymand, Senior Lecturer (MCU-HC- HdR; CNU 33), is head of a pluridisciplinar research team "Dolphin: nano-biomaterials for life" that he has created. He does research in Physical Chemistry, Surface Chemistry and Materials Chemistry. Dr. Qichun Zhang is an associate professor at School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) and School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. Dr. Ke Cheng is the Randall B. Terry, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Regenerative Medicine in the Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences NC State University and Professor in the UNC/NCSU joint Department of Biomedical Engineering. He is an adjunct professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Ke also serves as the co-director of the functional tissue engineering program at the Comparative Medicine Institute. Dr. Cheng’s formal education began with a B.S. in Pharmaceutical Engineering from the Zhejiang University, followed by a Ph.D. degree in Biological Engineering from University of Georgia . Dr. Cheng's research results have been summarized into publications in journals like Lancet, Nature BME, Nature Comms, Science Advances, J of Clinical Investigation, Circulation, Circulation Research, Biomaterials etc. His work has been directly translated into two awarded investigation new drug applications (IND) and licensed to several biotech companies. Joachim Koetz studied chemistry at the Martin-Luther University Halle/Wittenberg and obtained his Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry under supervision of Burkart Philipp in 1986 from the Institute of Polymer Chemistry of the Academy of Science in Teltow-Seehof (Germany). In 1992 he received habilitation and since 1994 he has been Professor of Colloid Chemistry at the University of Potsdam. His main interests are nanoparticles, polyelectrolytes, liquid crystalline systems and microemulsions. Ivo W. Rangelow (https://www.tu-ilmenau.de/nanoscale/) received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electronics from the University of Wroclaw in 1983. He was as post-dock at the University of Muenster, where his research was focused on the development of ion and electron beam techniques. In 1985, he joined the Fraunhofer-Institute in Berlin, where he worked on X-ray lithography. In 1986, he joined the University of Kassel, where he was focused on the development of force sensors, microresonators, and novel fabrication techniques for MEMS and CMOS. In 2005, he joined the Ilmenau University of Technology. He was a Guest Professor at the University of Berkeley, University of Vienna, and Wroclaw University of Science and Technology. He has authored or co-authored over 360 scientific papers and holds 48 patents. From 2005 to 2018 he was appointed Director of the Institute of Micro- and Nanoelectronics at the Ilmenau University of Technology. Actually he is working on scanning probe lithography and single ion implantation for single electron and quantum devices.

Prof. Harri Lipsanen received his PhD from Helsinki University of Technology in 1994. Since 1999 he has been a Professor of Nanotechnology in Aalto University, Finland. He has held several positions as Head of Laboratory and Department during past 20 years. In 2018 he was Nokia Foundation Visiting Professor in the University of Arizona, USA. He studies nanomaterials and nanofabrication for various applications in photonics and nanoelectronics. His current research focus on materials includes graphene and other 2D materials, compound semiconductor nanowires and their heterostructures. The nanofabrication activities extend over many methods such as atomic layer deposition, chemical vapor deposition, metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy, electron beam lithography, self-assembly etc. Prof. Lipsanen has published over 350 peer-reviewed articles.

Dr. Habil. Vaidotas KAŽUKAUSKAS is a Professor at the Faculty of Physics of Vilnius University, Lithuania. He was awarded Dr. Habil. degree in 1999. The topics of his research work are carrier transport, generation, recombination and trapping phenomena in advanced materials and structures for (opto-)electronic and photovoltaic applications. Prof. V. Kažukauskas is/was involved as a team leader into the six large-scale international projects and other numerous projects. Brian Cantor is Professor of Materials at Oxford and Brunel Universities. In the recent past, he has been Vice-Chancellor of the Universities of Bradford and York, Head of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at Oxford, a research scientist at GE Labs in the USA, a consultant for Alcan, NASA and Rolls-Royce, and a Vice-President of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He has worked at other universities such as Sussex, Northeastern, Banaras, Washington State, IISc Bangalore and the Kobe Institute, and chaired or been on boards such as the Marshall Aid Commission, the UK Universities Pensions Forum, and Bradford, Leeds and York Local Economic Partnerships (LEPs). He founded, chaired and built up the Begbroke Science Park, the Heslington East Campus, the Hull-York Medical School, the Institute for Effective Education, the Wolfson Cantre for Applied Health Research, the Centre for Applied Human Rights, the Digital Health Enterprise Zone, the National Science Learning Centre, and the World Technology Universities Network. He has received academic prizes, honorary professorships and fellowships in the UK, USA, China and India. He was awarded a CBE for services to higher education in 2013.

Prof. Luis Sousa Lobo now mostly involved in clarifying the mechanisms of CNTs and graphene growth. He did his PhD at Imperial College in 1971, worked in science for 20 years, but was mostly involved in administration. He was Reitor (President) of Universidade Nova and other institutions for 20 years. He came back to science in 2011, invited to pay tribute to Prof. David Trimm, who died in Australia in 2010. That involvement challenged me to clarify the mechanisms of carbon formation and carbon gasification.

Vakhtang Barbakadze has his expertise in isolation and structure elucidation of a new series of plant polyethers, which are endowed with pharmacological properties as immunomodulatory, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, wound-healing and anti-cancer agents. Besides, he interested in enantioselective synthesis and biological activities of basic monomerica moiety of these biopolyethers, synthesis of enantiomerically pure epoxides as chiral building blocks for the production of synthetic analogues of natural polyethers by chemical and enzymetic catalysis. He has received PhD degree in Chemistry and DSci degree in Biology in 1978 and 1999 from Institute of Organic Chemistry, Moscow, Russia and Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Tbilisi, Georgia, respectively. He is Head of the Department of Plant Biopolymers and Chemical Modification of Natural Compounds at Tbilisi State Medical University I. Kutateladze Institute of Pharmacochemistry. In 1996 and 2002 he has been a visiting scientist at Utrecht University, Departments of Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Chemistry, Utrecht, The Netherlands, by University Scholarship and The Netherlands organization for scientific research (NWO) Scholarship Scientific Program, respectively. He is also an organizing committee member and renowned speaker for many reputed scientific conferences. He has published more than 100 papers in reputed journals. In 2004 he was Georgian State Prize Winner in Science and Technology.

Dr. Jaichan Lee is the professor of School of Advanced Materials Science and Engineering, Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), Korea. He received BS degree from Seoul National University in 1983, MS degree from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 1985, and Ph.D. degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, USA in 1993. He worked for Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. and Samsung Advanced Institute if Technology (SAIT) as a Research Staff (1985-1989). He also worked for Bell Communications Research (Bellcore), USA as a postdoctoral Member of Technical Staff (1993-1994). He has been a professor at Sungkyunkwan University since 1995. He served as the President of the Korean Dielectrics Society. He had been a director of BK21 Center for Emergent Materials supported by the Ministry of Education, Korea. He is currently a director of Interface Research Center. He has published more than 180 papers in reputed journals including a paper titled with “Isostructural metal-insulator transition in VO2” published in Science (2018) and “Lanthanum-substituted bismuth titanate for use in non-volatile memories” published in Nature (1999). He is a member of International Advisory Committee of several international conferences including IEEE FerroComm. His current research interests focus on the study of correlated oxides, oxide surface, and nanostructures (2D and 1D materials) by first-principles calculation and materials informatics.

Dr. Lukas W. Snyman received the B.Sc., B.Sc Hons., M.Sc. and PhD degrees, in South Africa. He is currently Research and Innovation Professor at the NanoWs Institute at the University of South Africa in Johannesburg, South Africa. He has to date published 120 research outputs in international conference proceedings and journal articles in the field of silicon photonics and CMOS Optoelectronics. He is author and co-author of two scholarly book chapters on Integrating Micro-Photonic Systems and MOEMS into Standard Silicon CMOS Integrated Circuitry. He is currently the main inventor and co-inventor of eight granted U.S.A patents, two European Patents, two Korean patents, one Chinese patent, and eleven granted SA patents.

Dr. Otmar Kolednik, retired since 2020, but still active in research, was group leader at the Erich Schmid Institute of Materials Science of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and professor at the University of Leoben (Department of Materials Science). He was born 1954, studied Materials Science at the University of Leoben and received there his PhD degree (1984), his habilitation (venia docendi) in mechanics of materials (1992), and the professorship (2005). He was visiting scientist at the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London (1992) and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge (1997-1998). He has written about 240 articles in scientific journals and conference proceedings, mainly on (i) the deformation- and fracture properties of materials, (ii) theoretical concepts of non-linear fracture mechanics, and (iii) the development of design concepts for novel damage resistant materials.

Dr. Chenxu Yu completed his PhD from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2003, and did postdoctoral studies at Penn State University and Purdue University before joining the faculty at Iowa State University in 2007. He has published more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has been serving as associate editor and/or editorial board member for five reputed journals.

Raj Solanki is Professor of Physics and has a joint appointment in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Portland State University. After receiving his Ph D from Colorado State University, he was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at The Johns Hopkins University. His research has covered several aspects of electrical and optical properties of materials related to micro/nanoelectronics, flat panel displays, biosensors, and green energy production (fuel cells) and storage (batteries). Current research in his lab includes growth of 2D materials using atomic layer deposition.

Dr. Quan Qing obtained his B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry from Peking University in 2001 and 2006 respectively. He then joined Prof. Charles M. Lieber’s group at Harvard University as a postdoc and later as a research associate. In 2013 he came to Arizona State University to start his academic career as a joint assistant professor of the Department of Physics, and the Center of Bioelectronics and Biosensors in the Biodesign Institute. Quan Qing is member of the Center of Biological Physics at Arizona State University. His main research interest lies in the interdisciplinary area of nanoscience and biology. Specifically, he focuses on the design and preparation of novel nanomaterials and nanodevices with unique structures and characteristics for electronics and biosensing applications. Dr. Quan Qing currently serve as an editor for Bioelectricity (Mary Ann Libert, Inc.), and Biosensors (MDPI).

Dr. Blesson Isaac is a Research Engineer at Idaho National Laboratory (INL), Idaho, USA. He was a post-doctoral associate at INL. He completed Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Texas at Arlington in 2018. His research interests are automation and control systems and characterization of electrospun materials for various applications and electrospinning methods for the manufacturing of nanofibers. Design of Experiment tool is used for analyzing non-linear interactions of parameters in desired responses of electrospun materials. He was a research assistant at University of Texas at Arlington Research Institute (UTARI), Fort Worth, TX for 3 years and 6 months until December 2018. Also, he was a manufacturing intern in medical manufacturing devices at Boston Scientific, Indiana during 2013-2015. He completed M.B.A and M.S. in Engineering from Prairie View A&M University, TX. His family includes his wife and two kids, and they are currently living with him in Idaho Falls, ID, USA. He was born and raised in Kerala state in India. In his leisure time, he spends time with his family and travel places, read books, play badminton, and watch soccer and basketball games.

Dr. Mohammad Shah Al-Mamun received his Bachelor degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh. Then he joined Robi Axiata Limited (Robi) and worked as Deputy Manager, Radio Network Planning. During that period, he obtained Master of Business Administration (Finance) degree from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Later, he moved to the USA and obtained Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in 2014. During his research at Center for Photonic Technology (CPT), Virginia Tech he developed novel Miniature Fiber-Optic Temperature Compensated Pressure Sensor. Then he worked as a graduate instructor in Micro & Nano Fabrication Laboratory, Virginia Tech. He obtained PhD in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2019 while working under Professor Marius K. Orlowski, IEEE fellow. His doctoral research was focused on Impact of the Inert Electrode Stack on the Performance, Reliability and Endurance of ReRAM Memory Cell/Array. Some of the key contributions from his doctoral research is experimental demonstration of cell to cell thermal crosstalk and reliability degradation mechanism in non-volatile ReRAM memory cells. Through novel device architecture and engineered inert-electrode stack, he experimentally demonstrated the improvement of reliability and endurance of ReRAM memory array/cell by several orders of magnitude in both 2D and 3D cell/array stack. He has several publications in reputed journals, international patent (pending), presented in numerous conferences and has been serving as reviewer in several reputed journals. He is currently working in Logic Technology Development at Intel Corporation.

Dr. J. Liu received her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Science and Technology Beijing in 2001. She was promoted to a tenured Full Professor at Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) in 2016 and affiliated at the Texas A&M Energy Institute in 2019 due to her productivity for nanostructured materials preparation, characterization, understanding of the properties and applications of engineered nanomaterials in alternative energy and biological science. Dr. Liu has co-authored Patents, books (>11), book chapters (>15) and over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles. Currently, she serves as the elected American Chemical Society (ACS) Division Chair of Energy and Fuels Division, and elected Secretary and Historian of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society (TAMU Chapter). She chaired and organized international conferences and presented more than 100 talks. She has been hosting 15 visiting scholars and taught more than 10,500 students; trained > 150 undergraduate and 35 graduate students. She served as the NSF panelist, Journal Editor and Reviewer and Chaired the proposal review panels. Dr. Liu was recognized as the Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, granted Chartered Scientist and separately Chartered Chemist Status. She was also appointed as a DEBI faculty fellow at the US Air Force Research Laboratory. She was awarded the Annual Foreign Experts supported by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, P.R. China; Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Invitational Fellow; and Faculty Fellowship Summer Institute in Israel. She directed and participated in > 40 projects supported by the NSF (USA, CHINA), NSERC (CANADA), ACS Petroleum Research Funds, R. Welch Foundation, Department of Education. She received dozens of travel awards to attend DOE, NIH, Higher Education Consortium, and NSF COACh women advancement workshops. Since 2018, She co-founded a small business to promote STEM education and energy materials commercialization.

Shengxi Huang is an assistant professor in Electrical Engineering Department, Biomedical Engineering Department, and Materials Research Institute at The Pennsylvania State University, USA. She earned her PhD degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, under the supervision of Prof. Mildred Dresselhaus. She then did postdoctoral research at Stanford University before joining Penn State. Shengxi is the recipient of multiple awards, including NSF CAREER Award, Johnson & Johnson STEM2D Scholar’s Award (6 awardees worldwide in 6 disciplines), Kavli Fellowship for Nanoscience, Jin Au Kong Award for Best PhD Thesis at MIT, Xerox Foundation Fellowship, Ginzton Fellowship at Stanford. Shengxi’s research interests involve light-matter interactions of 2D and quantum materials, as well as the development of new quantum emission platform and biochemical sensing technology.

Dr. Ke Wang obtained his undergraduate degree in Physics from University of Science and Technology of China and his Ph.D. in Physics from Princeton University working with Prof. Jason R. Petta. After his post-doctoral research with Prof. Philip Kim at Harvard University, he joined University of Minnesota as an assistant Professor in Physics in 2018. His current research interests include correlated electrons at the quantum limit and transport properties of novel 2D functional materials and nanostructures. Ke Wang received NSF career award and International Union of Pure and Applied Physics Young Scientist Prize in 2020.

Dr. Alvaro Blanco graduated in Physics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 1994, obtained his PhD in Physics in 2001, regarding the fabrication and characterization of 3D photonic crystals, at the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid (ICMM- CSIC). After a period of two years in the Institut für Nanotechnologie in Forschungs-Zentrum Karlsruhe working on holographic photonic crystals as postdoctoral fellow, he moved to ICMM-CSIC as Ramon&Cajal researcher where he is Permanent Scientist since 2008. With more than 60 papers in the field of Photonic Materials, his current research lies on the preparation and characterization of self-assembled heterostructures with applications in photonics.

Dr. Beatriz H. Juárez (Researcher ID G-7066-2011) graduated in Chemistry at Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain, in 1999. During that year she obtained a scholarship at the prestigious telecommunications company Lucent Technologies where she acquired valuable knowledge in microelectronics and material processing in cleanroom laboratories. In 2000 she started her Ph.D. studies at the Institute of Materials Science of Madrid, CSIC, (http://luxrerum.icmm.csic.es/), in the study of photonic crystals (in the group of Prof. Cefe López). She obtained the Ph.D. degree in 2005 at Universidad Autónoma, Madrid (UAM). A first postdoctoral stay of 4 months in the Quantum and Molecular Photonics Laboratory belonging to the École Normale Supérieure de Paris (group of Prof. Isabelle Ledoux) followed another one of almost 3 years in the Physical-Chemistry Institute of the University of Hamburg, (Germany) in the group of Prof. Horst Weller. There, she obtained a Marie Curie Fellowship (EIF) from the European Commission to carry out work on colloidal quantum dots. In 2008 she returned to Madrid with a “Ramón y Cajal” contract at IMDEA Nanoscience Foundation (https://www.nanociencia.imdea.org/), where she started her independent career. Since 2012 she is an Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Physical Chemistry (UAM), and an associate researcher at IMDEA Nanoscience. Since 2016 her research interests focus on the development of nanoparticles for biomedical applications.

Pilar Rivera Gil, PhD, Habil. has a strong interdisciplinary background combining scientific and entrepreneurial skills. She is fully committed to catalyze translational nanomedicine. Her academic background includes high education in Clinical Pharmacy (2001), PhD in Molecular Biology (2007), PostDoc in Biophotonics and Material Sciences (2007-2013). In 2013, she reached the highest German academic degree, the Habilitation, in the field of Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology. This degree of excellence is granted by demonstrating an ability to combine higher education teaching with high impact research. In 2014 she was awarded by a Ramón y Cajal position from the MICINN (Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities). Dr. Habil. Pilar Rivera Gil is since 2016, the head of the “Integrative Biomedical Materials and Nanomedicine Lab” at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). These positions (from the PhD to the latest) involved stringent selection procedures based on maxima levels of competitiveness and excellence. Her main groundbreaking research activities indicators are a scientific production normalized impact value of 3.8 and a h-index of 31 (WOS) obtained during the last 12 years. Some other indicators are 60 international peer-review articles, 3,618 times cited excluding self-citations, and an average citation per article of 63.81. The majority has been published in the most highly ranked journals such as Chemical Society Reviews (IF 41.45), Accounts of Chemical Research (IF 24.9), Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews (IF 18.8), Nano Today (IF 18.22), Nano Letters (IF 15.65), ACS Nano (IF 14.59), or the Journal of the American Chemical Society (IF 14.33). In addition to the academic background, she has worked towards the translation of nanotechnology to society by acquiring formation on Entrepreneurship and Leadership skills, and by working in the private sector as a Scientific Consultant. Dr. Habil. Pilar Rivera Gil has a worldwide licensed patent (WO 2015177340 A1) and is currently drafting two more patents with different technology transfer strategies. One is a nanotechnological platform for oncology aimed to be licensed and the other is a technological solution for counterfeiting aimed to be a UPF spin off.

Dr. Silvestri received his bachelor (2011) and master degree (2013) in Chemical Sciences at the University of the study of Milan. In 2014 he started to work in the field of nanotechnologies, receiving a fellowship at the National Research Council (ISTM-CNR) and attending the doctorate program at the University of Milan. In March 2017 Dr Silvestri has been awarded with the European PhD title in Chemistry. In 2017, during his first postdoc, Dr Silvestri worked in a collaborative project between the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces and the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology (Potsdam, Germany), in which he developed a new methodology, based on surface enhanced Raman scattering, for the analysis of organic matter associated with biominerals. In April 2018, Dr Silvestri joined the group of Prof. Maurizio Prato at CIC biomaGUNE where he is currently working at the development of nano-biosensor based on carbon nanomaterials. Starting from his experience in nanomaterial synthesis and functionalization, Dr Silvestri is developing hybrid nanomaterials based on graphene and biomacromolecules for the highly sensitive detection of biologically relevant analytes. These kinds of biosensors have the potential to play a key role in the future of health monitoring, early disease detection, and personalized diagnosis.

Dr. Núria Alegret obtained her BS in Chemistry, MS in Computational Chemistry (2010) and MS in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (2012) from the University Rovira i Virgili (URV). She has performed her PhD titled "Computations on Fullerenes: Finding Rules, Identifying Products and Disclosing Reaction Paths" in Computational and Experimental Chemistry of Fullerene Nanostructures, under the supervision of Prof. Josep M. Poblet (URV). Most of her projects during that period have been developed in collaboration with the leading scientists in the field of fullerenes, as Prof. Echegoyen and Prof. L. Balch. With them, Núria has defined the rules of formation of fullerenes, become an expert of the reactivity of fullerenes, and, among her achievements, she has determined that the most used reaction in fullerenes (Bingel-Hirsch) is kinetically controlled. Furthermore, she spent 8 months in Prof. Echegoyen's lab to improve her skills in experimental organic chemistry of fullerenes. She obtained her Ph.D. degree in 2014, and she was awarded the Excellence Recognition.

Dr. C. Fornaguera is an early-career scientist who joined IQS-URL at the end of 2018. She was incorporated in the Group of Materials Engineering (Consolidated Group, recognized by the Generalitat de Catlunya with the SGR2017 1559), where, together with Prof. S. Borrós, she leads research projects devoted to the design of innovative immune-nano-therapies, based on the use of nanosystems for cancer immunotherapy (e.g. nucleic acid vaccines) and prophylactic vaccination. Since then, she has participated in many research projects as a researcher (QuirofAM FEDER Catalunya and iNanoLive Plan Nacional projects awarded on 2018 and 2019 for polymers additive manufacturing and use of polymers for liver cirrhosis, respectively). After less than three years from starting at IQS-URL, Dr. Fornaguera has been able to fundraise her own research, as demonstrated by the funding of some projects where she is the co-PI, together with Prof. Borrós (CoviNanoVax project, for the development of the Spanish Covid19 vaccine; RetiPatch project, from CaixaImpulse Validate program, for the development of a thermosensitive polymeric hydrogel patch and Retos project, from MINECO, to design a polymer-coated stent to avoid aneurism by the controlled release of active principles from polymeric nanoparticles). In the last five years, a short time after finishing her PhD (defended on January 2015) has spent, but her scientific track record is huge. She has published more than 25 research articles in peer-review journals, and also some reviews and book chapters. Among them, 11 articles were derived from her PhD, devoted to the development of polymeric nanoparticles able to cross the blood-brain barrier. After, she has demonstrated independence and leadership through the publication of articles in which she is corresponding author and/or last author. Her integration in the Group of Materials engineering has also been very fruitful. The group, with a long trajectory on the design of materials for biomedical applications was complemented by the expertise of Dr. Fornaguera in delivery systems at nanoscale. Thanks to her incorporation, a new research line was created: the development of nanosystems for vaccination purposes. Some promising results had been obtained for tumor therapeutic vaccination, through the collaboration with leading companies in the field; but this research line culminated last year with the funding of the CoviNanoVax project, dedicated to the design of one of the firsts Spanish vaccines to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Dr. Ivo Mateus Pinatti was Posdoc fellow at Faculty of Engeneering of Guaratinguetá - UNESP, Brazil. And he is Posdoc fellow at University Jaume I, Spain. He has experience is materials science and inorganic chemistry. Research focusing on photoluminescence, inorganic matrices, rare earth elements, silver compounds, photocatalysis among other material´s properties.

Dr. Nerea Casado earned her B.Sc. in Chemistry (2012) and M.Sc. in Applied Chemistry and Polymeric Materials (2013) from the University of the Basque Country, Spain. In April 2017 she defended her PhD Thesis at POLYMAT ethylenedioxythiophene) materials for energy storage. During her thesis she worked in close collaboration with CIC energiGUNE (Spain) under the supervision of Prof. Michel Armand. She was visiting researcher in the group of Maria Forsyth at Deakin University (2016, Australia) where she investigated the electroactivity of conducting polymers in ionic liquids for sodium batteries. At present, she is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of the Basque Country working on polymeric mixed ionic-electronic conductors. Her research interests include Conducting Polymers, Redox Polymers, Ionic liquids, Organic Ionic Plastic Crystals and Mixed Ionic-Electronic Conductors for Energy Storage and Biomedical Applications.

Maria Josè Lo Faro graduated in Physics of Condensed Matter cum laude at the University of Catania in 2013, where she consolidated her experience in nanostructures for integrated silicon photonics during the Ph.D. She was a visiting researcher at the Kastler-Brossel Lab (ENS-Paris) for the investigation of light propagation in random media by wavefront shaping in S. Gigan’s group. In 2017, she worked as a Postdoc in the Institute for Chemical and Physical Processes (IPCF- CNR) in Messina in the field of optical nanostructured biosensors and in 2018, she moved to the Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystem (IMM-CNR) in Catania, where she investigated the use of Si nanostructures for lasing. Since November 2018, she is a research fellow at the Physics Dept. at UNICT, where she is currently working. Her main research interest is the synthesis of silicon nanostructures realized through low-cost processes compatible with the Si industrial technology, aimed to control their optical and structural properties through the fine-tuning of their growth parameters and special attention is paid to light management in disordered fractal systems to control their light scattering and emission according to their structure. Her research is also focused on quantum-confined nanostructures emitting at room temperature for integrated Si microphotonics applications by using photo-, electro-, and cathodoluminescence techniques. She is also studying low-cost Si-based luminescent sensors for the selective detection of proteins, DNA, and exosomes, and more recently, the realization of optical nanomaterials for optical targeting and imaging for biomedical applications based on rare earths.

Dr. Jason Thomas Duskey was born in Alaska in 1985. He grew up in Colorado Springs and transferred to Iowa to attend Mount Mercy College to earn his B.S in both Chemistry and Biology. He transferred to the University of Iowa under Dr Kevin Rice to research Somatostatin targeted polyplexes for gene delivery, receiving his Ph.D. in 2013. He then transferred abroad to Basel Switzerland as a post-doctoral researcher expanding his expertise to polymer-based nanoparticles for the delivery of biological actives. In 2016, he was offered another research role at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy, and has remained there studying targeted nanomedicine delivery systems for brain targeting and the treatment of diseases including brain cancer, lysosomal storage diseases, and Alzheimer’s. He is the recipient of numerous awards and independent research grants and has been well published and cited in the field playing a leading role in numerous grants and collaborations spanning 5 languages and more than 8 countries.

Valentina Onesto received a Master degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan, Milan (Italy) and a PhD in biomedical, system and applied nanotechnologies engineering from University Magna Graecia, Catanzaro (Italy). In 2016 she has been a Visiting Researcher at the Italian Institute of echnology (IIT) of Genova (Italy) and in 2018 a Visiting Research Associate at King’s College London, London (UK). From January 2019 she was a Senior Research Fellow Scientist at the CRIB@IIT of Naples (Italy). In September 2020 she started a Postdoctoral Researcher position at CNR-Nanotec in Lecce (Italy) within the ERC-Starting Project INTERCELLMED (No. 759959).

Dr. Cinzia Di Giorgio is currently a research fellow at the Physics Department of University of Salerno (Italy). She received her Ph.D. in Physics in 2016, by investigating the nucleation and confinement of superconducting vortices in superconductor/ferromagnet heterostructures, by means of low temperature scanning probe microscopy techniques. As a post-doc researcher, from 2016 to 2019, her scientific interests spanned from the study of unconventional symmetries of superconducting vortex cores, to the electronic properties of nano-structured semiconductors. A special focus was devoted to the effects of cobalt substitution in nanostructured ZnO-thin films, on surface reactivity, chemistry and electronic band-structure, by performing light-assisted advanced scanning probe microscopies. Since a few years, she has been focusing on a detailed study of the electronic and the elasto-mechanical properties of strained 2D materials, by means of atomic force microscopy nano-indentation and electrical scanning probe microscopies. She is also member of the VSC (Virgo scientific collaboration), inside the European Virgo project, devoted to the detection of gravitational waves, as well as she is PI of the University of Salerno/University of Sannio working unit in the ET_ITALIA project, for the setting up of an innovative, possibly cryogenic, gravitational wave interferometer.

Luca Digiacomo is a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Molecular Medicine, Sapienza University (Rome, Italy). He graduated in Physics of Matter at the University of Pisa in 2014 and received his Ph.D. in Life and Health Sciences in 2018 at the School of Advanced Studies of Camerino (MC, Italy) with the project “Mechanistic insights into nanoparticle-protein corona and its exploitation for novel targeted therapeutics”. During the Ph.D., he conjugated his educational background on Physics to bio- and nano- medical applications and had the opportunity to work at the Laboratory for Fluorescence Dynamics (University of California Irvine, USA) under the mentorship of Prof. Enrico Gratton. Starting from the study of nanomaterials for drug and gene delivery, under the supervision of Prof. Giulio Caracciolo, he focused on the clinical implications of the protein corona of nanoparticles, for both therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. This lead to the publication of 37 articles in international peer-reviewed journals (with a resulting h-index of 14 and 786 citations) two Italian patents and one international patent. Finally, he has recently received a three-year fellowship from AIRC (Associazione Italiana per la Ricerca sul Cancro) as a principal investigator of the project “A graphene-based blood test for the early detection and molecular staging of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma”.

Dr. Kawthar BOUCHEMAL carries out multidisciplinary research activities in the field of biomaterials and nanotechnology for healthcare at the University of Paris Saclay. After a pharmacist graduate diploma, she completed a Master’s Degree in Medical and Biological Engineering and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology at the University of Claude Bernard Lyon-1. She was post-doctoral fellow jointly at the University of Claude Bernard Lyon-1 and the University of Geneva in Switzerland. She has been appointed to the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF), an elite French institution, in recognition of her teaching and research activities. Her research activities are focused on conception, characterization, and evaluation of the behaviors of pharmaceutical compositions able to improve the efficacy and/or decrease the side effects of pharmaceutical drugs. Her work has led to novel environmentally responsive controlled release formulations and a series of bio- and mucoadhesive devices. Her group has provided the fundamental basis for a rational use of thermosensitive and mucoadhesive hydrogels for the prevention of the transmission of viral infections by mucosal routes. Her research on self-associating biopolymers and cyclodextrins has led to the development of new self-assembling micro- and nanosystems which have proven useful for the prevention and the treatment of microbial infections. Other research work deals with scaling-up the production of drug delivery systems. Her group has established for the first time a mathematical model between nano-emulsion droplet size and turbulences created upon nano-emulsion formation by emulsification and solvent diffusion process also called Ouzo effect. Kawthar BOUCHEMAL authored 78 publications and she was inventor of 16 patents. In 2014, she co-founded the biotech company aiming to move her research from the laboratory to the clinic. She has been attributed the award for The Best Innovative Company by the French Minister of Higher Education and Research in 2013 and in 2016. She was chair and/or member of the Organizing & Scientific committee of national and international meetings on Pharmaceutics & Biopharmaceutics.

Rémi Cazelles is a post-doctoral fellow in the Analytical Nanosystem research group (NSysA) of the Institute of Molecular Sciences in Bordeaux. His research interests focusses on biochemical and electrochemical energy transduction processes by natural and artificial systems. He completed his PhD under the supervision of Dr A. Galarneau (Charles Gerhardt Institute of Montpellier France), and conducted post-doctoral studies with Prof. M. Antonietti (Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Germany), Prof. I. Willner (Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel), Dr H. Ben-Yoav (Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel). He is currently with Prof. A. Kuhn (National Polytechnic Institute of Bordeaux, France), supported by a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship, to study transduction processes at nanostructured bio-electrodes.

Dr. Sadok Ben Dkhil is currently the CTO of the French startup Dracula Technologies specialized in OPV by inkjet printing. He has always wanted to use the results of my fundamental research activities carried out as part of his doctoral thesis and post-doctoral internships in the field of organic photovoltaics for an actual application. He joined the team as Development Engineer to contribute to the development of LAYER® technology. Today, He is proud to continue this adventure and lead, with his team, this technology towards industrialization.

Simon Raveau currently works in a private dental practice in Bois Plage on Ré Island in France. Simon works in Aesthetic Dentistry, Periodontology, Dental Surgery and Implant Surgery. His current project is '3D printing in Periodontology'.

Ayat-allah Bouramdane completed her Engineer's degree in Energy at the School of Energy Engineering of the International University of Rabat (UIR), in 2017, in Morocco, with thesis on the implementation of different structure of hybrid systems in different regions of Morocco at the Green Energy Park platform of the Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN). In 2016, Ayat-allah had the opportunity to participate in an exchange program where she spent six months at the European School of Materials Engineering (EEIGM) and National School of Electricity and Mechanics (ENSEM) of the University of Lorraine in Nancy, France. Then, in 2018, Ayat-allah completed her master in Energy & Environment: Science Technology & Management «STEEM » at Ecole Polytechnique in Palaiseau (Paris), France, with a thesis on the operation of photovoltaic power plants: Data processing & analysis, modeling and faults diagnosis at GeePs - Group of electrical engineering – Paris of CentraleSupelec. These experiences inspired Ayat-allah to contribute to a transition towards a greener future. Ayat-allah is currently PhD student at the Laboratory of Dynamic Meteorology of Ecole Polytechnique (Palaiseau, France). Her research interests lie in the fields of renewable energies and climate change.

Neophytos Neophytou received his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA in 2008. He worked as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Institute of Microelectronics at the Technical University of Vienna in Austria until 2013. He is currently a Professor at the University of Warwick in the UK. He was awarded the 2015 ERC Starting Grant from the European Commission. His area of specialisation is theory, computational modelling and simulation of electronic and thermal transport in nanomaterials and devices. His current interests focus on exploring concepts for improving the thermoelectric performance of nanostructured materials, and materials with complex nanostructures, by developing advanced theory and simulation tools.

Zhugen is currently Lecturer in Sensor Technology and holds NERC Fellowship (2018-2021), heading up a UKCRIC-sponsored Sensors Laboratory at Cranfield University. Zhugen was a Lecturer at The University of Glasgow before joining Cranfield in 2019, and held Marie Curie Fellow at The University of Bath after a Postdoc at The University of Cambridge. His multidisciplinary group is developing low-cost and point-of-use sensors (e.g. paper-origami device) for environmental science (e.g. microbial contamination, antimicrobial resistance), public health (e.g. drug of abuse, COVID-19 for wastewater-based epidemiology), and biomedical diagnostics (e.g. infectious disease). The device has been field-tested of infectious disease in India and malaria in Uganda, Africa. He is recently involved the UKRI funded project on national wastewater epidemiology surveillance programme (N-WESP) for COVID-19. His research has been sponsored with over £2.5M from UKRI (EPSRC, NERC, BBSRC), Royal Academy of Engineering and industry, leading to over 50 peer-reviewed articles (PNAS, ACS Nano, ES&T, Water Res, Biosens Bioelectron, TrAC, Anal Chem, H=21). His work has been featured in Science and media coverages including BBC (BBC One, Science Action), Washington Post, Yahoo etc. He serves as editor of special issue on WBE for Elsevier journal “TrAC Trends in Analytical Chemistry”(IF 9.8), and editor of the book on Comprehensive Analytical Chemistry (Elsevier).

Amir Farokh Payam received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and a PhD in Electronics Engineering-Nanotechnology. He is a Lecturer at the School of Engineering, Ulster University, UK since January 2019. Before joining the Ulster University, he worked at the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid - ICMM - CSIC from 2012 to 2015, Department of Physics at Durham University from 2016 to 2018 and Department of Engineering, University of Bristol from 2018 to 2019. His research interests are: Developing new experimental techniques and theoretical understanding of how the micro/nano mechanical sensor (especially microcantilevers) interacts (nonlinear dynamics of vibrations) with the sample surface at nanoscale (micro/nano scale modelling, simulation, and characterization). Study the interfacial dynamics of solid-liquid interfaces, viscoelastic and morphological dynamics of cells, membranes, proteins and molecules. In-situ observation of fatigue and corrosion evolution at nano/micro scale. In the field of Mechatronics systems, he has focused on design, modelling and control of electromechanical systems by considering the scale effect from macro (such as electrical drives and machines) to micro (such as MEMS devices) and Nano (NEMS).

Hoshang Kolivand is Assistant Professor in Computer Graphics. He received his MS degree in applied mathematics and computer from Amirkabir University of Technology, Iran, in 1999, and his PhD from Media and Games Innovation Centre of Excellence (MaGIC-X) in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2013. He has completed a Post-Doctoral in Augmented Reality in UTM. Previously he worked as a lecturer in Shahid Beheshti University, Iran and then as a Senior Lecturer in UTM. Currently he is a Senior Lecturer in Liverpool John Moores University. He has published numerous articles in international journals, conference proceedings and technical papers, including chapters in books. He is an active member of many international conferences and journals. He has also published many books in object-oriented programming and mathematics. His research interests include Computer Graphics, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality.

Dr. Shaila Afroj is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Fine Print Research (CFPR), UWE Bristol (UK). She is currently investigating into graphene and other functional nanomaterials-based technologies aimed at developing scalable and cost-effective coatings and printing onto various substrates for functional and wearable electronics applications. She has about 12 years of industry and academic experiences since graduated as textile chemist in 2008. She has experiences of managing a textiles laboratory for the sourcing team of a high street fashion retailer (C&A), and working for world leading testing company Intertek (UK) before starting a PhD at the National Graphene Institute (NGI) of the University of Manchester. In her PhD, she investigated into developing next generation graphene-coated or printed wearable e-textiles under supervision of Nobel Laureate Prof Sir Kostya S Novoselov. After completing her PhD, she then joined NGI as a Research Associate. During her PhD and post-doctoral work, she co-developed several novel and highly scalable graphene-based wearable technologies, which resulted in high quality peer reviewed publications, and also attracted significant commercial interests. Her current research interest includes exfoliation and functionalisation of graphene and other nanomaterials, and their formulations to be used for highly scalable fabrication techniques such as coating and printing for high-performance multi-functional products, and flexible wearable electronics applications.

Pei san E (Sharel) is a Lecturer in Chemistry at School of Health & Life Sciences, Teesside University. Sharel graduated from the University of Science Malaysia with a B.Eng. in Materials Science and Engineering in 2011 and a Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Warwick, UK, in 2017, exploring carbon nanomaterials for electroanalysis and electrocatalysis. In 2016 she began Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) postdoctoral research in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge, UK, working on novel porous materials for electrochemical gas sensing. Sharel joined Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) at the University of Warwick in 2019 as a Research Fellow working on the development of lithium ion technologies (lithium ion battery and lithium ion capacitor). Her research is at the interface of fundamental research and business, developing skills in translation and exploitation of lab-based research to commercial settings. Her work has been published in reputable journals such as Nature, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Carbon, Journal of Physical Chemistry C, Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, and Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry. She has been awarded the Gold Award in British Invention Show (BIS, London, 2011), the Romanian Best Innovation award in BIS (London, 2011), the Gold medal Award in National Research and Innovation Competition (NRIC, Malaysia, 2011), and the Sustainable Green Technology Award in NRIC (Malaysia, 2011). Her research focuses on areas of nanoscale/microscale electrochemistry, electroanalysis, electrocatalysis, development of electrochemical sensor (biosensor and environmental sensor) and electrochemical energy storage. She pushed the boundary of scanning electrochemical cell microscopy (SECCM) technique, where a nanopipette, filled with a small volume of electrolyte, was scanned across the electrode surface, for revealing the nanoscale activity of the heterogenous electrode surface. She has developed carbon nanotube and metal organic framework based electrochemical sensors for trace level detection of biological and environmental molecules such as toxic gases and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In the area of energy storage, she investigated the prelithiation process on the cathode/anode of lithium ion battery in order to compensate lithium losses and to increase the energy density. Being awarded the prestigious Talented Program organised by Hebei government (China), she aims to facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations on electrochemical sensors and electrochemical energy storage with Hebei University of Technology and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Mr. Kingsley Amakiri has a Master's degree in petroleum and gas engineering from the University of Salford in Manchester, and his research focuses on the mitigation of key water-related issues experienced during oil and gas production.Kingsley is a member of the World Youth Parliament for Water research group and a future star in nanoscience and nanotechnology. His latest research at the University of Huddersfield (Application of Nanotechnology in Oilfield Produced Water Treatment) aims on producing compact and efficient systems that combine high degradation with low-cost technologies.Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are promising methods for the treatment of hazardous and persistent organic contaminants in wastewater streams. Kingsley wants to enhance the quality of oilfield generated water discharge by using the physical features of nanostructured materials via the use of Advanced oxidation process-photocatalysis.

Francisco Brito joined the University of York, UK as a PhD researcher in 2020. His main research interest is the simulation of interacting quantum spin systems, in particular spin liquids. In 2019, Francisco worked as a graduate researcher at the University of Porto, Portugal, where he used Determinant Quantum Monte Carlo and Mean Field Theory to study electron-electron interactions and edge-magnetism in transition metal dichalcogenide nanoribbons. Recently, Francisco has applied a spectral method based on a Chebyshev expansion of the Green function to interacting spins, focusing on a model frequently used in the study of Kitaev materials. Following these efforts, Francisco joined the open-source quantum transport software initiative KITE.

Venkata Suresh Mothika awarded prestigious 5-year fellowship from CSIR, India and completed his Ph.D. in 2016 from Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore, India, developing light emitting nanoscale organic-inorganic hybrid porous materials and π-conjugated organic porous materials under the supervision of Prof. Tapas K Maji. He did his postdoctoral studies on electroactive porous organic polymer thin-film chemical sensors with Prof. Ullrich Scherf at Universität Wuppertal, Germany from 2016-2018 as a Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) research fellow. He worked as a PBC research fellow at Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel in 2019 on aqua materials. He was then awarded Royal Society Newton International Fellowship in 2019 and currently working at University of York, UK developing chiroptical and redox organic molecular materials towards chiroptical molecular switching.

Dr. Lu received his Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Groningen in 2018. He is now a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Groningen. His research interests mainly focus on tuning the electrochemical properties and performances of energy storage materials in order to develop advanced electrochemical energy storage devices with high energy density, low-cost and long lifespan.

Dr. Erwan Rauwel received his PhD degree from University of Caen in Materials Science in 2003. He continued with postdoctoral studies in collaboration with STMicroelectronics at Minatec, France and at the University of Aveiro (Marie Curie IE Fellowship), Portugal. He worked as Senior Researcher at University of Oslo in collaboration with Statoil and then joined Taltech as Professor in Estonia for 5 years. He is now Professor at the Institute of Technology of the Estonian University of Life Science in Estonia where his team investigates the properties of nanoparticles for the development of biocidal coating to fight AMR & Covid-19, new processes for water purification, and the development of nanocomposite for photocurrent generation and energy harvesting. His group also investigates new possible treatments against cancer with the LBN (Montpellier). He has more than 65 peer-reviewed publications with H-index=23, 4 book chapters and 6 patents. Dr. Sanjoy Kr Mahatha received his PhD degree in Experimental Physics from Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata in 2013. He is currently working as a research scientist at Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY, Hamburg, Germany. His research interests focus on growth and electronic structure of novel two-dimensional materials.

Dr. Rui Igreja is a researcher at the Materials Research Center (CENIMAT), member of the associated laboratory i3N (Institute of Nanostructures, Nanomodeling and Nanofabrication) and Professor in the Department of Materials Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa DCM-FCT/UNL. He is a member of the Materials for An Optoelectronics and Nanotechnologies Research Group at CENIMAT working in the area of sensors, materials for electronics, impedance measurements, microfluidics, Biossensors and e-skin devices. Participated in a total of 18 scientific research projects, national and European. He is currently coordinator of 3 ongoing projects and participant in 5 more projects in the area of sensors. He is the author of 47 ISI/WoS indexed articles.

Dr. Pedro Barquinha received his PhD in Nanotechnologies and Nanosciences from Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 2010. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Materials Science Department of FCT-NOVA. He has been working in oxide electronics since 2004, participating in >30 national and international research projects in the area, with academia and industry. His work involves design, deposition and characterization of multi-component oxide thin films, fabrication and characterization of transistors and their integration in circuits on flexible substrates. He is co-author of more than 150 peer-reviewed papers (h-index=45, as March 2021), 3 books and 3 book chapters in this area and gave >50 invited lectures in international scientific conferences and workshops. He also co-authored 4 international patents in the areas of multi-component oxide dielectrics, p-type oxide semiconductors, paper electronics and x-ray sensing oxide TFTs. In 2016, he got an ERC Starting Grant (TREND) to take oxide electronics towards nanoscale, pursuing low temperature synthesis routes of oxide nanostructures and nanodevice/nanocircuit integration, complemented by device modelling/simulation, targeting multifunctional and self-powered smart surfaces. He is also active in editorial boards of materials-science related journals, namely Electronic Materials (MDPI), Materials (MDPI) and Electron Device Letters (IEEE).

Sérgio Nuno Magalhães (SM) is a researcher at the Instituto de Plasmas e Fusão Nuclear from Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, Portugal. He is co-author of more than 45 publications in peer-review journals with more than 70% of them belonging to the first quartile, according to the SJR website. Moreover, according to the ORCID platform, between 2008 and 2018 he is co-author of 5 book chapters and 2 books. He is also the main author of the MROX code, an acronym for Multiple Reflection optimization package for X-ray diffraction. Since 2016, SM has been developing MROX to simulate and fit the diffraction and reflection patterns of crystalline materials and implanted species. After the development, intensive testing and validation with the LEPTOS software developed by the prestigious Bruker company, the software started to attract attention from several crystal growth groups around the world resulting in two collaborations: Prof. Vittorianna Tasco from the CNR NANOTEC, Institute of Nanotechnology, Lecce, Italy, and Prof. Adrian Kozanecki from the Institute of Physics from the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland. The MROX software can be downloaded at www.MROX.eu website where a full description of the functionalities is available. Moreover, SM et. al developed the Layer de-Convolution Williamson-Hall novel method published in Fev 2021 at the CrystEngComm journal from the Royal Society of Chemistry (IF~3.1). The standard WH method is a worldwide recognized and accepted tool to separate size and strain effects from the experimental X-ray measurements. The software is also attracting several proposals for collaborations as it can be applied to single crystals but to polycrystalline materials as well. Moreover, SM, supervised two Master's degree students, one hosted in the same Institution where SM is a researcher, while the other at the Faculdade de Ciências from the University of Porto, Portugal. The latter student strengthens the synergies developed since the first postdoc at the IFIMUP (Institute of Physics Materials from the University of Porto), in particular with the IFIMUP director, Prof. J. P. Araújo. To conclude, SM is one of the researchers responsible for guiding outside scheduled visitors to the Laboratório Aceleradores e Tecnologias de Radiação in the Campus Tecnologico e Nuclear. The purpose is not only to explain to undergraduate and graduate students from all over the country but also to senior visitors interested in the activities developed in the Institute.

In 2008, I completed my PhD receiving the Best Thesis Award of University of Vigo, Spain. Since my PhD, I have pursed my investigation at NOVA University of Lisbon. I have published 87 papers with an accumulated impact factor-IF of 339. My work has accumulated 3314 citations and a h-index of 33. I am corresponding author in 33 of them (independent investigator since 2010) and 52 of the publications are independent of my PhD supervisor. 68 out of 87 papers have come following my PhD, 20 papers are ranked in the top 5 of the corresponding areas. In 2020, I have been identified as a thought leader in chemical engineering/applied chemistry (I&EC Research’s 2020 Class of Influential Researchers). During the last 5 years, I have also led 5 research projects: 1 industrial contract with a Portuguese Public Entity, 1 European project as coordinator (1743 k€, with 433 k€ for my team, in a consortium with 19 partners: 6 industrial partners, 6 academic institutions, 1 public administration, 1 European platform, 1 Environmental Federation, 1 NGO, 1 Innovation Cluster and 2 public foundations) and 3 Portuguese from FCT projects (a total of 537 k€ managed).

Yu. Bludov was graduated in Radiophysics and Electronics from the Kharkov State University (city of Kharkov, Ukraine) in 1996 and received a PhD degree from the A. Usikov Institute for Radiophysics and Electronics (city of Kharkov, Ukraine) in 2000. After that he worked at this institute as a researcher till 2005. From 2005 to 2009 he worked as a Post-Doctorate researcher at the University of Lisbon, Portugal. From 2009 he works at the University of Minho.

Simão is a PhD student at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, in Portugal. He is co-author of the open-source quantum transport software KITE and his main line of research is on the development of methods, algorithms and software for the calculation of quantum transport properties in disordered systems in high-performance computing environments. Recently, Simão has developed formalism for the real-space calculation of the nonlinear optical conductivity, a method for the exact calculation of the disordered self-energy operator, a new hybrid method to simulate disordered superconductors, and formulated a modification to the standard Peierls approximation which enables tiny magnetic fields to be used in periodic systems.

In 2013 I finished my Ph.D. in Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry Polish Academy of Sciences, Cracow, Poland. The doctoral dissertation was entitled “Mechanism of irreversible adsorption of nanoparticles and proteins on solid surfaces determined by electrokinetic investigations and AFM microscopy.” My research interest focuses on interfacial chemistry, with emphases on understanding protein interactions with biocompatible carriers, development, fabrication, and characterization of materials for biomedical applications (investigation of the physicochemical properties of obtained protein layer/-s at micro-and nanocapsules for targeted proteins delivery, in vitro, and in vivo determination of proteins adsorption mechanism as well as desorption from colloid nanocarriers (their quantification and visualization), assessment of influence micro and nanoparticles on cytotoxicity, cell viability, oxidative stress in vitro/in vivo approach). Since 2016 I am working as an assistant professor at Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin. I have taken part in scientific projects relating to mechanisms of irreversible adsorption of nanoparticles and proteins on solid surfaces; functional nano and micro-particles-synthesis and applications in innovative and technologies; the strategy of diagnostics, prevention, and adjuvant therapy of selected neurodegenerative disorders in the Polish population. Now I am working on a project entitled innovative use of stem cells and biocompatible polyelectrolyte nanoparticles releasing neurotrophins in the adjuvant treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

Federico Brivio has a master degree in Material Science from Milano Bicocca. After a brief spell as a teacher, he completed a PhD in Bath with Aron Walsh as a member of the ITN-Destiny project. After the PhD he did a Postdoc in Cambridge with Paul Bristowe and Tony Cheetham and then joined the Nachtigall Group in Charles University. Federico research interest orbits around the investigation of electronic properties of matter and DFT simulations. He focuses on hybrid materials such as zeolites and hybrid-perovskites.

Dr. Jan M. Macak is a Senior Researcher and a group leader at the Center of Materials and Nanotechnologies of the University of Pardubice, Czech Republic and at the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) in Brno, Czech Republic, as the leader of the research group Advanced Low-Dimensional Nanomaterials. He got his Ph.D. in 2008 at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, under supervision of Prof. Patrik Schmuki. He was R&D group leader at Elmarco Ltd (2008-2010), private enterprise developing and delivering technology for synthesis of nanofibers by electrospinning. He received several prestigious awards, including Neuron Award 2015 for outstanding achievements of young scientist in the field of chemistry. Between 2015-2020 he has been principal investigator of prestigious ERC Starting grant “Chromtisol” devoted to development of new type of solar cells based on nanotubular titania. His research is focused on the synthesis of new low-dimensional structures such as nanotubes, nanolayers, nanofibers, in various ways. Research of the group also includes the necessary investigation of the relationship between the structure and the properties of these materials. The most promising materials have been explored in various areas such as photovoltaics, catalysis, batteries, etc.

Dr. Jiri Cervenka is a Science Secretary of the FZU and a group leader of research group of Nanoscale Materials and Nanosystems in the Department of Thin Films and Nanostructures. Research in his group focuses on the synthesis of new nanomaterials, characterization of their fundamental physical properties, and development of powerful new device structures and systems for applications in electronics, energy storage and biomedicine. His current research activities include: Low-dimensional semiconductors (nanosilicon and 2D materials), Molecules on surfaces and bio-nano interfaces, Electronic structure and electronic transport in nanomaterials, Energy storage and harvesting, Electronic sensors.

Peter Scheer, MVD, Ph.D. works as a postdoctoral researcher in the Stroke Program in The International Clinical Research Centre of St. Anne's University Hospital Brno and lecturer at Masaryk University, Faculty of Pharmacy. He is a specialist in veterinary cardiology and in small animal models in cardiovascular, pulmonary, systemic circulation, and neurovascular diseases. In recent years, he has been involved in the in vivo distribution of targeted and non-targeted nanoparticles (liposomes, biodegradable iodinated nanoparticles based on MAOETIB) for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke.

Jana Hložková (maiden Roučková), MVD, Ph.D. works as a postdoctoral researcher in the Stroke Program in The International Clinical Research Centre of St. Anne's University Hospital Brno and as a lecturer on Faculty of Pharmacy Masaryk University, Brno. She is a specialist in small animal models in cardiovascular and neurovascular diseases. In recent years, she has been involved in the research in the in vivo distribution of targeted and non-targeted nanoparticles (liposomes, biodegradable iodinated nanoparticles based on MAOETIB) for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke.

Dr. Gómez obtained her bachelor and master degree in Chemistry from the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (USC, Spain). During that period, she joined the group of Prof. Diego Peña and Prof. Enrique Guitián working on multicomponent cycloaddition reactions of arynes (CIQUS, Spain, 2013 and 2014) and the group of Prof. Steve Davies to work on tandem N-arylations with arynes as a visiting master student (University of Oxford, UK, 2014). In 2018, Jénnifer obtained her Ph.D. under the direction of Prof. Maurizio Prato, one of the world’s leading experts in carbon materials, from the Università degli Studi di Trieste (UNITS, Italy), where she worked on the design and preparation of carbon dots for biomedical applications. During her first postdoc within the group of Prof. Lenka Zajíčková at the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC-Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic, 2018 and 2019), she optimized graphene CVD transfer methods for optical applications in collaboration with Thermo Fisher Scientific. Currently, she is a Postdoctoral Researcher Fellow at the same university in the department of condensed matter physics, working on tailoring doped graphene quantum dots and their possible use as photocatalysts and biological carriers under a “MSCAfellow4@MUNI” grant funded by the European Regional Development Fund project supported by MEYS CR.

Dr. Hugo Aramberri graduated in Physics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 2010, and obtained a PhD in Condensed Matter Physics in 2016 working on low dimensional effects of topological effects at the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid (ICMM-CSIC) in Spain under supervision of Prof. Mª Carmen Muñoz. After a postdoc at the Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) with Dr. Riccardo Rurali working on the simulations of thermal properties of oxides, he moved to California in 2018 to work in the search for new Weyl and nodal line topological materials with Dr. Nicholas Kioussis at the California State University, Northridge (CSUN). Since 2019 he is working as a postdoc at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) with Prof. Jorge Íñiguez, mostly interested in antiferroelectrics and ultra-responsive ferroics.

Michael Waltl’s overall scientific focus is on the robustness of microelectronic devices and circuits. In this field, he investigates reliability issues – characterization and modeling – in semiconductor devices and circuits. His research covers evaluating bias temperature instabilities in silicon devices, devices employing wide bandgap materials, and transistors built on novel 2D materials. Dr. Waltl also studies hot carrier degradation and stress-induced leakage currents of various transistor technologies. Another research pillar of Dr. Waltl is the high performant operation of integrated circuits built from scaled devices, where he investigates the impact of defects on the performance of circuits. Also, radiation hardening of various technologies, i.e. SRAM cells, and integrated electronic circuits, lies in his research focus. Dr. Waltl is the co-author or author of over 100 articles in journals and conference proceedings (current h-index 22). He is the director of the Christian Doppler Laboratory for single defect spectroscopy in semiconductor devices and leads the device characterization laboratory at the IuE at the TUW. He is the (co-)recipient of various best paper awards (IIRW2014, DRC2019, IIRW2019, IEDM2019, etc.) and serves on the technical program and management committee of international conferences and workshops. Based on his expertise, Dr. Waltl is regularly invited as a reviewer of numerous renowned Journals, including IEEE TED, Microelectronics Reliability, Journal of Applied Physics, and many more.

Dr. Josef Weinbub is an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) of High Performance Simulation in Micro- and Nanoelectronics and an IEEE Senior Member. He obtained the doctoral degree in Computational Microelectronics and the venia docendi (habilitation) in the field of Micro- and Nanoelectronics from the TU Wien. He was a visiting researcher at the EPCC, University of Edinburgh and at the Device Modelling Group, University of Glasgow, Scotland, UK as well as at SILVACO Inc., Santa Clara, CA, USA. He founded and now chairs the master’s program Computational Science and Engineering at the TU Wien and is involved with several international scientific conferences in various management and scientific roles. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Computational Electronics and a Principal Investigator of various research projects funded by, e.g., the Austrian Science Fund and the Christian Doppler Research Association. Together with his team he investigates cutting-edge research problems in the area of computational micro- and nanoelectronics.

Dr. Marianna V. Kharlamova holds PhD degree in Physics (Spectroscopy) from University of Vienna and PhD, MSc and BSc degrees in Chemistry (Solid State Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry) from Lomonosov Moscow State University. She is currently working as a Senior researcher at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and Institute of Materials Chemistry of Vienna University of Technology. She obtained numerous awards, including the Austrian Academy of Sciences PhD fellowship and young scientist award of European Materials Research Society. She participated as a principal investigator and co-worker in interntional and russian projects. She was an invited editor for the book “Raman spectroscopy” (IntechOpen, UK) and special issues in Nanomaterials and Frontiers in Materials journals. She co-authored 92 publications, including 3 books, 10 book chapters and 79 research articles. Her research interests include the synthesis, sorting, chemistry, physics and applications of filled carbon nanotubes and graphene.

Dr. Vasudevanpillai Biju is a Professor at the Research Institute for Electronic Science and Graduate School of Environmental Science at Hokkaido University. He assumed this position after a research career - as a scientist and a senior scientist in AIST, Japan (2004-2015), as PRESTO concurrent researcher of Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) (2010-2014), a visiting Scientist at the University of Texas at Austin, USA (2007), a postdoctoral fellow at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, USA (2003-2004), a JSPS postdoctoral fellow in AIST, Japan (2002-2003), and a research scientist at Angstrom Technology Partnership, Japan (2000-2002). He has been a visiting faculty in many universities including in Japan, the US, and India. He is a SPARC fellow of the Science and Engineering Board of India and was an Erudite Fellow at Cochin University of Science and Technology, India. His research interests include semiconductor nanocrystals and quantum dots, photo-functional molecules, and single-molecule techniques. His research activities are recognized with various awards by the Ozaki Foundation (Gen-nai Award), Japanese Photochemistry Association, Asian and Oceanian Photochemistry Association, and the Chemical Society of Japan. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2011.

Dr. Hiroshi Uji-i received his B.S. and M.S. degrees of engineering from Osaka University in 1997 and 1999, respectively. He received his PhD degree in science from Tohoku University 1999. From 2002 to 2004, he was a post-doctoral fellow at laboratory of molecular dynamic and spectroscopy at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. He served as a senior postdoctoral fellow at laboratory of photochemistry and spectroscopy at KU Leuven, Belgium. From 2011 till present, he has occupied a research professor position at department of chemistry, KU Leuven. At 2011, he received European Research Council (ERC) grant. He obtained a professor position at Hokkaido University Japan at 2015. Currently, he is running two laboratories in two countries. His research interests are super-resolution optical microscopy, plasmonic nanoscopy, single molecule fluorescence, and drug delivery system.

Dr. Yutaka Fukuchi was born in Tochigi, Japan, on April 29, 1975. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electronics engineering from Tokyo University of Science, Chiba, Japan, in 1998 and 2000, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electronics engineering from the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, in 2003. In 2003, he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Tokyo University of Science, Tokyo, Japan as an Assistant Professor. From 2003 to 2005, he was also a Co-operative Research Fellow in Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan. Then, he became a Junior Associate Professor of Tokyo University of Science in 2006. Since 2009, he has been an Associate Professor at this university. From 2013 to 2014, he was a Visiting Research Fellow with the High-Speed Optical Communications Group, Department of Photonics Engineering, Technical University of Denmark, Lyngby, Denmark. He has published over 150 papers in major international journals and conferences. His research interests are optical communications, quantum optics, nonlinear optics, and their applications. Dr. Fukuchi is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Optical Society of America (OSA), and the Institute of Electronics, Information, and Communication Engineers (IEICE).

Dr. Noriyuki Uchida is currently working on development of phospholipid-based functional materials at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. He received his PhD from the University of Tokyo under Prof. Aida. After that he worked at RIKEN. He joined Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology as an assistant professor in 2020. His research interest is design of functional materials based on self-assembly of biomolecules such as phospholipids and proteins, and their application to biomaterials. He has received several awards including the Prize of the Japan Association for Chemical Innovation.

Dr. Nataly Carolina Rosero-Navarro got Doctor in Chemistry from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain, in 2011. After that, she was awarded with two postdoctoral position in 2012 and 2013 at Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage Group of University of Aveiro and at Division of Applied Chemistry of Hokkaido University, respectively. In 2016, she was appointed as assistant professor at Hokkaido University. Her research career has been based on the implementation of the solution processes for the synthesis and characterization of inorganic materials (glassy and crystalline) and organic-inorganic hybrid materials as coatings, membranes and composites for various applications: corrosion protection of metals and alloys, electrodes and electrolytes for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC) and Li-secondary batteries.

Mr. Seigo Kimura received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in pharmaceutical sciences from Hokkaido University in 2018 and 2020, respectively. He is currently a Ph.D. student in the field of drug delivery especially in gene delivery at Hokkaido University studying under Professor Hideyoshi Harashima. The aim of his studies is to develop safe and efficient drug delivery systems for nucleic acid medicine and gene therapy. He focuses on lipid-based carriers to address some of the issues that exist in several processes of nucleic acid delivery in vivo. Specifically, he has been working on the development of non-viral vectors using plasmid DNA-encapsulated lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). His previous studies regarding LNPs capable of in vivo gene transfer to immune cells and that applicability to DNA vaccines have been published in J Control Release. Prof. Fu received the PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University in 2009. He is currently a professor in the School of Physics at Peking University. His research is interested in the ion solid interactions, ion beam analysis and modification of materials and plasma facing materials in fusion system.

Dr. Xiehong Cao received his B.E. degree in Polymer Materials and Engineering from Zhejiang University, China (2008). He completed his Ph.D with Prof. Hua Zhang at the School of Materials Science and Engineering in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (2013). After working as a Research Fellow in the same group, he joined Zhejiang University of Technology (ZJUT, China) in 2015 as full professor. He was awarded the “Highly Cited Researchers” in 2018-2020. Hongtao Xiao has completed completed his doctorate in biomedical engineering with the theoretical and practical combination of pharmacy and pharmacology at the Tongji Medical University, China, West China School of Pharmacy Sichuan University,University of Electronic Science and Technology of China for bachelor, master, PHD, respectively. After his pharmacogenetics study in University of California San Francisco, he joined the Sichuan Cancer Hospital&Institute, Sichuan Cancer Center, School of Medicine, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China as the dean and professor. Now he is focused on cancer pharmacology and gene therapy of cancer, he published about 100 papers and 7 patens. He also got a lot of grant from government.

Xuhui Sun received his B. Sc. and M. Sc. degrees in chemistry from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 1993 and 1996, respectively, and Ph.D. degree in material science from the City University of Hong Kong in 2002. He performed postdoctoral research at University of Western Ontario in 2003 and joined NASA Ames Research Center in 2005 as a research scientist. Before joined Institute of Nano Functional & Soft Materials (FUNSOM), Soochow University in 2009 as a professor, he was a research scientist at Advanced Studies Lab, NASA Ames Research Center and adjunct assistant professor at Santa Clara University, CA. Jianxin Tang received his B.Sc. degree in physics from Zhejiang University in 2002, and Ph.D. degree in Physics and Materials Science from City University of Hong Kong in 2006. In 2008, he was appointed professor at the Institute of Nano Functional & Soft Materials (FUNSOM), Soochow University. His current research areas/interests span device physics and surface science on organic and perovskite light-emitting diodes technology for flat panel display and solid-state lighting, and organic/perovskite photovoltaic cells for renewable energy, including localized electronic state and charge barrier formation at organic interfaces, and novel device architectures to improve device performance with interface modification for carrier transport and light manipulation.

Dr. Xin graduated from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), with a Ph.D degree majored in materials science and engineering. After graduation, Dr. Xin held a position of Staff Research Associate at UCLA for one year and then he served as a senior research scientist at Craytex LLC. Dr. Xin now is a Professor at Nanjing Tech University, China. Dr. Chen is currently a Professor of School of Resource and Environmental Sciences at Wuhan University. Dr. Changqing Ye received his BS degree in chemistry from Nanjing University, China in 2007. Then, he obtained his PhD degree in materials science and engineering from Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS) in 2012. Now he is working as professor in Suzhou University of Science and Technology. His present research focuses on bio-inspired photonics crystal materials and high efficient low-power upconversion in solid state. He has published more than 60 papers, co-edited two books and granted 30 patents. Also in the last ten years, he is devoted to the industrialization project of photonic crystal in green printing and packaging. Dr. Zhong Lijing received his B.E. degree in Optics Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China. In 2020, he has successfully defensed his PhD thesis titled as "Laser writing of waveguides in porous glass for sensor applications" at ITMO University, Saint Petersburg, Russia. He is currently a post-doctoral researcher in Zhejiang Lab, Hangzhou, China. His research interests focus on laser micro-machining of nanoporous glasses and its applications.

Dr. János Elek graduated as chemist at Lajos Kossuth University in Debrecen Hungary. He obtained his PhD in 2003 in the Homogeneous Catalysis Working Group of the Academy of Hungarian Sciences at the University of Debrecen. He is active in spectroscopy and chemometrics since 2004, he was the secretary of the Chemometrics and chemioinformatics working group of the Academy of Hungarian sciences between 2012 and 2021. He has founded his analytical company Science Port in 2012 and mostly active in spectral characterization for new material EU registrations, and he was co-founder of Fumoprep Kft, a GLP facility established for the GLP supporting analysis of toxicology studies, particularly for Charles River Laboratories Hungry Kft.

Dr. Zhifeng Huang obtained B.Sc. in Chemistry (in 2000) and M.Sc. in Physical Chemistry (in 2003) at Xiamen University (China), and Ph.D. in Science and Engineering of Materials at Arizona State University (US, 2007). After working as a postdoctoral fellow in Department of Electrical and Computing Engineering at University of Alberta (Canada, Jan. 2008 – Aug. 2009), Dr. Huang joined Department of Physics at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) as an Assistant Professor, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2015. Dr. Chaoliang Tan is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at City University of Hong Kong. He received his Ph.D. degree in Materials Science from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) in 2016. After working as a Research Fellow in the same place for about one year, then he worked as a Postdoc Research Fellow in Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at University of California, Berkeley for two years. Dr. Zhiyuan Zeng obtained his B.E. and M.E. from Central South University, Zhejiang University in 2006 and 2008, respectively. He started his postdoctoral training at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (2013-2017, under Dr. Haimei Zheng), followed by Senior Engineer at Applied Materials Inc. Dr. Zhanxi FAN is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, City University of Hong Kong. He received his B.S. degree (2010) in Chemistry from Jilin University (China) under the guidance of Prof. Bai Yang and Prof. Hao Zhang, and completed his Ph.D. (2015) in Materials Chemistry from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) under the supervision of Prof. Hua Zhang. Dr. Ye CHEN is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She received her Bachelor and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) in 2015 and 2019, respectively. She has authored or co-authored over 30 SCI papers in the past five years. Her current research interest focuses on wet-chemical synthesis of novel inorganic Nanomaterials and their applications in catalysis and clean energy.

Dr. Kwang Seob Jeong obtained his Ph.D. in chemistry at the Pennsylvania State University, USA. He did his post-doctoral research at the University of Chicago as a JFI post-doctoral scholar before joining Korea University as an assistant professor in 2015. He was nominated as 2018 emerging investigators by the Chemical Communications of Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and won the POSCO TJ Park Science Fellow in 2019. His research interests include the infrared colloidal nanocrystals, steady-state intraband transitions, colloidal chalcogenide nanomaterials, and mid-IR quantum emitters.

Seunghyun Rhee, PhD, is currently working as a Post-doctoral researcher in the Advanced Institute of Nano Technology, Sungkyunkwan University (Korea). He has received his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Seoul National University (Korea) in 2020.Feb. His research focuses on analyzing the operational mechanism of nanomaterial-based semiconductors such as Quantum dot-based LEDs and Perovskite based Solar Cells. His current interests focus on enhancing the luminance efficiency of QD-LEDs by engineering charge transport layers and unraveling device deterioration factors.

Dr. Mark Auslender is a Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Ben Gurion University (ECE-BGU) of the Negev. He received his Ph.D. in solid state physics and Senior Researcher in magnetic semiconductors in 1977 and 1986 from the Institute of Metal Physics at the Ural’s Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, and Higher Attestation Commission of USSR, respectively. In 1991, he joined ECE-BGU as a Researcher at Microelectronics Laboratory, and since 1994 has been teaching courses on Computational Methods and Special Topics in Electromagnetism. His current research focuses on periodic nanostructures for optical sensors/detectors; optical coherence; physics of graphene.

Prof. Daniel Cohn is a Professor at the Institute of Chemistry of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. His research activities focus on the design and development of implantable biomedical polymers and the engineering of functional medical devices, with special emphasis on the following areas: (1) Biostable, biodegradable and “smart” biomedical polymers, (2) Smart nano-structures and medical devices, (3) In situ generated implants, and (4) Functional 3D printed biomedical systems. He supervised around 150 students and more than 15 Post-doctorate fellows. He has published numerous scientific papers, holds many patents (more than ten have been commercialized), edited several books and organized many international scientific conferences. He received several awards, including the 2008 Kaye Innovation Award. Prof. Cohn served as the Director of the Casali Center of Applied Chemistry and as the Head of the School of Chemistry of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Two products based on biodegradable polymers developed in his laboratory have been approved for clinical use by the FDA and other leading regulatory agencies. A third product based on a polymer developed in his laboratory has received the CE mark. Several additional polymeric medical devices developed in his laboratory are at various stages of their industrial development and regulatory process.

Dr. Yuval Shaked (PhD) is a Professor at the Department of Cell Biology and Cancer Science, Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion, Israel, and the director of the Rappaport-Technion Integrated Cancer Center (TICC). He obtained his PhD from the Department of Neurology at Hadassah University Hospital (Israel) where he studied biochemical aspects of neurodegenerative disorders. Subsequently, he was trained as a post-doctoral fellow at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, University of Toronto, Canada, and studied cancer biology and therapy under the supervision of Prof. Robert S. Kerbel. In 2008, Prof. Shaked, started his own independent career at a rank of Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Technion, Israel. In his research, Prof. Shaked has pioneered the idea that the host in response to therapy alters the tumor microenvironment sometimes to the tumor advantage, therefore suggesting a double-edged sword of cancer therapy. In 2013 he was promoted to associate professor and in 2018 to a full professor. He served as the vice dean for research in his faculty. Prof. Shaked received a number of awards including the YigalAllon fellowship, Krill Prize from the Wolf foundation,Youdim prize for Excellence in Cancer Research and Hershel prize for innovation. He is supported by national and European grant agencies including ICRF, BSF, ISF and ERC. Prof. Shaked is an author of over 130 published studies.

Dr. Noam Adir is the Bertha Hertz-Axel Chair in Chemistry in the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry of the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa. He obtained his B. Sc. in Chemistry and PhD in Biochemistry at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. During his Postdoctoral research in the Dept. of Physics, Univ. of California, San Diego, he was the first to crystallize Photosystem II and the first to determine a crystal structure of a electron transfer complex between a memebrane complex and a soluble protein. He returned to Israel to in 1995 to establish the first Structural Biology group at the Technion. His research interests includeX-ray crystallographic determination of biologically relevant macromolecular structures;the structure and function of photosynthetic reaction centers and antennas;the study of energy and electron transfer processes in biological systems;the direct use of photosynthetic systems for solar energy conversion to electrical current and storable fuels and forming functional connections between isolated photosynthetic complexes and nano-materials or anodic structures. His group is also interested instress related proteins,enzymes, development of novel anti-microbial compounds andhomology-based modeling of medically important proteins. He has over 140publications with over 6000 citations.He served as the Deputy Executive Vice President for Research of the Technion (2013-205), as the Dean of the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry (2016-2019) and is now the Deputy Vice President for Safety of the Technion. He has been a member of the Israel Committee for Synchrotron Radiation since 1999, chairing the committee for 5 years.

Prof. Efrat Lifshitz, earned a PhD at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. She did postdoctoral researchat the University of Michigan as well as at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel. She joined the Technion–Israel Institute of Technology in 1990. Prof. Lifshitz holds the MatweiGunsbuourgh Academic Chairat the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry, Technion. She is the recipientof numerous prizes, the most recent among them: The Taub - excellent in Science Award (2019); Lectureship speaker, Birkent University, Ankara, Turkey, (2018); Lectureship speaker, ETH, Switzerland, (2016); Israel Vacuum Society Excellence Award for Research(2016); UK-Israel Lectureship Award, Oxford University (2015); Tenne Family Prize in memory of Lea Tenne for Nanoscale Sciences, awarded by the Israel Chemical Society (2015); External Senior Fellow at the Freiburg Institute of Advanced Studies (2015).Prof. Lifshitz has published ~ 220 scientific publications including in journals with high ranking peer review,including ACS Nano, Nano Letters, Adv. Mater., PRL, PRB; invited reviews (e.g., Nature photonics 2020, Science 2016, ACSNano 2020, J.Phys.Chem.Lett. (2019), Adv. Func.Matt. 2018); reviewed proceedings; and chapters in books. She has delivered approximately 100 invited talks at top-tier international scientific meetings chieflyduring the past decade (for example, MRS, E-MRS, TNT, nanoGe, GRC, QD20xx, NaNaX) and her research has beenfunded by assortednational agency resources, binational programs and various FP7 and Horizon2020 projects. In addition, she frequently serves onprestigious evaluation committees (ERC Synergy and Advance Grants, Cost, Wolf Prize, Israel Prize, Rothschild Foundation, and binational programs). Prof. Lifshitz has also been an active partner in the establishment of the Nanotechnology and Renewable Energy Centers at the Technion and has acted as chairman or co-chairman for a variety ofnational and international scientific meetings. Eugene Kogan currently works at the Department of Physics, Bar Ilan University. Eugene does research in Condensed Matter Physics. His current project is 'Kondo effect.'

Dr. Yuri Gorodetski is a Head of the Nano-optics group. He obtained his B.Sc, 2003 and M.Sc degree, 2006 in Mechanical Engineering, in the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (Haifa). During his Ph.D in Nano-optics Laboratory there he was awarded for Levi Eshkol and Russel Berry scholarships. His dissertation was focused on the experimental investigation of geometric phases in plasmonic 2D meta-structures. In 2010 he joined Laboratoire de Nanostructures, Université de Strasbourg as Post-Doctoral fellow. There he studied plasmonic interactions with chiral metamaterials and developed time-resolved plasmonic leakage microscopy. He took his current position in 2014 in the Faculty of Engineering in Ariel University where he established the Ariel Nano-optics Laboratory. He holds the Assistant Professor appointment in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering departments.

Prof. Abu-Reziq completed his doctorate at the Hebrew University in catalysis and sol-gel chemistry. After receiving his Ph.D. degree in 2004, he moved to Ottawa University, Canada, to do his postdoctoral research in the field of nanocatalysis. In 2006, he joined the company Sol-Gel Technologies as Senior Researcher and spent two years in developing micro and nano-encapsulation systems based on sol-gel process as drug delivery systems. In 2008, He was appointed as Senior Lecturer at Casali Center for Applied Chemistry and Institute of Chemistry and on 2015 he was promoted to Associate Professor. His research focuses on nanocatalysis, magnetic materials, green chemistry and developing micro and nanoencapsulation methods.

I have received my BSc degree in Pharmacy, in 2007; the MSc in Pharmaceutical sciences in 2011; and the PhD degree on the topic of “Design and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic evaluation of novel CNS-active amide derivatives of valproic acid” in 2014, all from the School of Pharmacy, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. During my MSc and PhD studies, under the supervision of Dr. Eylon Yavin and Prof. Meir Bialer, I focused principally on developing new derivatives/analogues of existing antiepileptic drugs, and on performing stereoselective pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic relationship studies of individual stereoisomers of chiral aliphatic drugs. In 2015, I joined the Department of Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy, University College London as a post-doctoral research fellow. I worked on identifying potential antioxidant treatment strategies that could translate into patient trials to prevent the development of epilepsy and associated comorbidities. In addition, I have worked on developing gene therapies for the treatment of temporal lobe epilepsy. During my career I received many awards and fellowships, The Council for Higher Education and the Planning and Budgeting Committee (VATAT)-Israel Postdoc Fellowship, The Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation award for an excellent PhD research, The "Yael Nussbaum Lev" for excellence in studies and research from School of Pharmacy, Institute of drug research, The Hebrew University, Excellence award for teaching and contribution to the life of the Institute of drug research from School of Pharmacy, The Hebrew University, and Excellence Award in B.Sc. degree studies. I joined the School of pharmacy at the Faculty of medicine, The Hebrew University as a Senior Lecturer in July 2019. My current research interests include: the role of oxidative stress in neurological disorders, the multiple neuroprotective effects of Keap1/Nrf2 pathway, targeted drug delivery for CNS, AAV-based gene therapy for CNS diseases, and pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of novel CNS active drugs.

Dr. Eugene Frumker is a head of attosecond science and nanophotonics group in the Department of Physics of Ben-Gurion University and fellow of Institute of Quantum Science and Engineering of Texas A&M University. Frumker received his Ph.D. in physics at the Weizmann Institute of Science in 2007. As a Marie-Curie postdoctoral fellow, his research focused on attosecond science at Joint Attosecond Science Laboratory of the Canadian National Research Council / University of Ottawa (JasLAB) and at Texas A&M University; and the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics (Germany). His research interests include ultrafast nonlinear optics, nanophotonics and attosecond science.

Dr. Yonatan Sivan received his PhD from the Tel Aviv university in physics working on nonlinear optics (solitons in complex media and propagation of intense beams in the atmosphere), and then spent a year at Purdue university with Vlad Shalaev, working on loss compensation in plasmonic nanostructures and negative refractive index metamaterials in particular using gain media. He then moved to London to work with John Pendry, where he worked on ultrafast manipulations of short optical pulses, particularly, on time-reversal of short optical pulses, and then on super-resolution microscopy assisted by plasmonics. Currently, he is a senior lecturer at Ben-Gurion University, in the south of Israel.

Prof. Alla Zak, is a Head of the Laboratory for Synthesis and Investigation of Nanomaterials and Associate professor in the Faculty of Sciences in the HIT-Holon Institute of Technology, Israel. She is also a Scientific Adviser in the Department of Materials and Interfaces in Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS), Israel (https://www.hit.ac.il/en/faculty_staff/Alla_Zak ). Alla Zak is involved in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology since 1996, including 6 years of Ph.D. study in Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel; almost 10 years as chief scientist (CSO) in NanoMaterials, Ltd. company and academic research in HIT from 2012. During her tenure as CSO (2002-2011), she established the company's first laboratories and pilot plant from scratch, increasing production capacity of inorganic fullerene-like (IF-WS2) spherical nanoparticles from the laboratory few grams to the pilot plant with tens of kg/batch. The main product of the company - “NanoLub”- provide effective lubrication additive to reduce friction and wear mainly for energy saving. Recently, A. Zak successfully developed the scalable synthesis of WS2 and MoS2 nanotubes. Being of unique mechanical, chemical and electrical (semiconductor) properties, and due to their nanosize and layered structure, these nanomaterials could find various applications as fillers in reinforcing polymers, as nanosensors or photodetectors in electronics; as electrode material in rechargeable batteries, as a catalyst in fuel cells, as effective material for hydrogen storage and solar cell. Availability of these nanomaterials paved the way for numerous scientific researches, for discovery of novel properties and opened new possibilities for using these materials in commercial products. Currently, Prof. Zak focuses her research on synthesis of nanospheres and nanotubes of transition metal dichalcogenides with modified properties for advanced applications. Alla Zak is an inventor of 3 patents and an author of 67 scientific papers in the field of inorganic nanomaterials and nanotechnology.

Mr. Gil Otis received his B.S. in chemistry from Ariel University in 2016 and his M.S. in chemistry in 2018, during his M.S he worked on antibacterial carbon quantum dots that are selective towards pathogenic bacteria and the work was later US patented. Gilis currently pursuing a PhD in chemistry at Bar Ilan University under the supervision of Prof. Yitzhak Mastai, He specializes in materials and inorganic chemistry and studies the chirality of natural inorganic crystals. In a conjoined work with Prof. Sharon ruthstein, he had developed a novel analytical method to measure the chirality in powders using EPR spectroscopy, the work resulted in a communication in Angewandte Chemie.

Dr.Fadi Ibrahim received his Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry from the University of Kuwait 2012, he is a head of chemistry department of saad ibn rabia school since 2017. He produced during his Master the greatest macrocycle crystal in the world made from Aza-Pc, which produced for first time in the world 2009. His thesis work focused on the synthesis and characterization of nanoporous organic materials. He has focused on the green synthesis and characterization of aza-phthalocyanine, nanoporous, high surface aria hybrid membranes, and microporus organic framework polymers. His major research activity was focused on different synthesis approaches and advanced characterization of metal oxides nanoparticles (NPs) with biomedical field. modelling of their performances in aqueous solutions. He has published papers (18) and joined conferences (10) as an oral presenter. He is the winner Poster of the first Kuwait France chemistry meeting 2009, the winner of Master graduate research award in applied sciences forpostgraduate research project from Kuwait University 2007/2008.He is the winner of PhD graduate research award in applied sciences forpostgraduate research project from Kuwait University 2013/2014. He is the winner of Kuwait National Petroleum Company KNPC-8th CEO Annual HSE improvement performance 2015.He is the winner of best paper award certificate from TJPRC “International Journal of Nanotechnology and Application” 2015, The winner of Energy Globe National Award 2016 "Polymer for Climate Protection". Also, he is the winner of Excellence in Reviewing Certificate from the Annual Research & Review in Biology 2020. Finally, he winsthe best researcher award of international scientist awards 2021 on engineering science and medicine.

Dr. Aleksandr P. Litvin is currently the head of the laboratory “Optics of quantum nanostructures” at ITMO University (St. Petersburg, Russia) which focuses on the study of 0D and 2D nanomaterials. He received his Ph.D. in Optics in 2015 at the same university. His main scientific interests are optical spectroscopy of near-infrared emitting nanostructures, including quantum dots, nanoplatelets, and perovskites, energy and charge transfer phenomena between nanoparticles, and their utilization in optoelectronic devices.

Dr. Yuliya Petrova has completed her PhD in Analytical Chemistry by Moscow State University, Russia. She works as an associate professor of Analytical Chemistry at Surgut State University, Russia. She has published more than 17 papers in reputed journals and serves as a director of the Institute of Natural and Technical Sciences. Her research interests are related to hybrid sorption-kinetic methods of analysis, and recently to surface molecular imprinting using inorganic carriers. Currently she is working on a project on creation of highly selective sorbents, based on molecularly imprinted polymer films on the surface of inorganic materials (TiO2 nanoparticles, SiO2, layered double oxides etc.) for extraction and determination of biologically active natural compounds. Also she is creating new composite materials based on surface modified TiO2 nanoparticles with improved optical properties for solar systems.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Neplokh (32) was born in Leningrad, USSR. Scientific work started in 2006 in Ioffe institute, St Petersburg, the research topic was InGaN/GaN LED modeling and device diagnostics. BA in nanotechnology at St Petersburg Polytechnic University (2011), MA in theoretical physics at Alferov University, St Petersburg (2013), PhD in physics at Paris-Sud University (2016). From 2019 VN works as a senior researcher in Renewable energy sources laboratory at Alferov University. The main research interest is development of flexible inorganic optoelectronic devices.

Ciprian Iliescu received his BS degree and PhD degree from School of Mechanical Engineering, Polytechnic University of Bucharest in 1989 and 1999 respectively. While pursuing his PhD degree he worked at Baneasa S.A. where he was involved in the design and fabrication of pressure sensors. Between 2001 and 2003 he worked as postdoctoral fellow at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and was involved in projects related to microphone, wafer level packaging of MEMS devices and RF microrelay. Between 2003 and 2017 he was senior research scientist with Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnolgy, Singapore. He was also visiting PI @ IMT Bucharest where he set up the "Micro and Nanofluidic lab". Between 2017 and 2019 he was senior scientist with Bigheart @ National University of Singapore. From 2019 he is with IMT Bucharest. His current research projects relate to self-assembled nanoparticles, point-of care devices, cell culture, and transdermal drug delivery. Dr. Iliescu is a member of Academy of Romanian Scientists.

Dr. Ioana D. Vlaicu was born on 28th of June in 1986, in Oravita, Romania. She graduated in Chemistry at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Chemistry, Romania, in 2008. From 2008-2010 she attended the Masterate School – “Chemistry of Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics” – at Faculty of Chemistry, University of Bucharest. She obtained her Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from the University of Bucharest in 2014. During her Ph.D. thesis she started working at the National Institute of Materials Physics (NIMP) (Magurele, Bucharest, Romania) in 2011 as Research Assistant and since 2018 she is a Scientific Researcher Rank III in the Laboratory of Atomic Structures and Defects in Advanced Materials (LASDAM) in NIMP. Her major research activity was focused on different synthesis approaches and advanced characterization of metal oxides nanoparticles (NPs) with multi-functional properties but also for metal complexes with applications in the biomedical field. Her recent research findings revealed the incorporation mechanisms of Mn2+ ions in ZnO NPs by simply modifying the synthesis parameters and the post-synthesis processes. Another important work of her is how the cytotoxicity of ZnO NPs can be dependent upon the surfactants used in the synthesis of Mn-doped ZnO NPs. A major part of the work is dedicated to understanding the influence of surfactants on the Mn incorporation and how this affects the cellular response in murine fibroblast cells when they are exposed to the Mn-doped ZnO NPs. The metal complexes obtained so far by Ioana D. Vlaicu, during her Ph.D. thesis entitled: "Complexes of some 3d transition metal ions with azole type ligands, as materials with biological activity", and afterward, present very promising potential as antimicrobial agents. Dr. Ioana D. Vlaicu’s research was funded by several national grants (for which she was one of the team members) and by an international partnership grant M-EraNet for which she was the project leader for the National Institute of Materials Physics.

Dr. John Wangis Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He has more than 30 years of experience in research and education of functional materials and materials chemistry, after obtaining his PhD. He served the Head of Department of Materials Science and Engineering at NUS for seven years (July 2012- June 2019). His current research focuses include: energy materials and devices, 2D materials chemistry, and nanostructured materials for energy and water technologies. He has published >400 papers in prestigious, top international refereed journals, and H-index=82. In 2019, Professor John Wang is elected Academician of the Asia Pacific Academy of Materials (APAM). John Wang is Clarivate Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher (2020).

Dr. Liu Hong obtained his M. Eng and PhD from the Dept of Mechanical Engineering of National University of Singapore. He has joined Institute of Materials Research and Engineering, Agency for Science, Technology and Research Singapore since 2003. His research interest is mainly focused on the development of advanced nanopatterning technologies for tunable metasurfaces and nanpphotonics devices, artificially engineered materials and nanoplasmonics, optical nanolithography and etc. Currently Dr Liu Hong is heading the Nanofabrication Department in IMRE to advance the science and engineering of structured materials at micro and nanoscale.

Qijie Liang received his Ph.D. degree in materials science and engineering from University of Science and Technology Beijing. He is currently a Research Fellow in Department of Physics at National University of Singapore. His research interests focus on two-dimensional materials and devices, defect engineering, and novel energy conversion devices.

M. A. del Valle is Full Professor of Chemistry at Facultad de Química y de Farmacia, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She received her Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from the same University on 1992 and carried out postdoctoral research at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (Chile), Instituto Rocasolano (CSIC, Spain), Texas A&M University (USA), and Université de Nantes (France) and, subsequently, numerous stays and research visits at various universities in America and Europe and has given numerous conferences. At P. U. Católica, Professor del Valle has taught courses in Analytical Chemistry, Instrumental Analysis, and Electroanalytical Chemistry, as well as in General Chemistry and Electrochemistry. Along the last 10 years she participated in 7 national and 8 international research projects, being the responsible researcher in 7 of them. She is author or co-author of nearly 200 papers and has supervised the theses of more than 50 under- and postgraduate (PhD) students, as well as postdocs. Her research interests involve (1) fundamental study of electro-polymerization process, and (2) electrosynthesis and application of conducting polymers in their bulk or nano-structured forms to analytical or electrochemical problems, and the development of materials for electric and electronic devices.

Dr. Manuel Gacitúa is a specialist in different field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. He has ongoing research on the use of nanoestructures in energy harvesting devices and is active in the field of environmental, occupational health and safety risk assessment from the use nanomaterials. After obtaining his Ph.D in 2012 he has published more than 40 original research articles on international scientific journals. Currently, he is devoting his efforts on the determination of the environmental fate of nanomaterials, characterizing the adsorption and transport processes trough soils.

Dr. Mawethu P Bilibana is a Senior lecturer/Researcher at the Department of Chemistry, School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, Faculty of Natural and Agricultural sciences, North-West University, South Africa. Received PhD in Chemistryfrom University of the Western Cape, South Africa. His research interests focus in the Physical Chemistry theories, techniques and procedures related to research on the characteristics, dynamics, organic synthesis, bioelectrochemistry, and the design of a nano-biosensor for environmental analysis.

Dr. Raquel A. Villamizar is an assistant professor at the Department of Microbiology and coordinator of the Nanotechnology research group of the Universidad de Pamplona, Colombia. BSc in Microbiology and MSc. in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from the same university. PhD in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from Rovira i Virgili University, Tarragona-Spain. Her areas of research include NanoBiotechnology and biosensors with analytical applications.

Dr. Fernando Sigoli received his Ph.D. degree in chemistry (2001) from São Paulo State University (Brazil), where he also did a postdoc (2005/2006). From 2001 to 2004 he worked for a company specialized in photonic devices in California. Since 2006, he has been a professor at the University of Campinas, UNICAMP. Prof. Sigoli is an expert in lanthanide-based nanomaterials and functionalized photoluminescent complexes for applications in luminescent optical sensors with additional expertise in photonic devices.

Dr. Eduardo J. Nassar graduated in Chemistry in 1986 from the Institute of Chemistry UNESP – Brazil, Master (1992) and PhD (1997) University of São Paulo USP – Brazil, Post-doc (2000) Inorganic Chemistry/Mater. Dr. Eduardo R Triboni has extensive experience in research on nanomaterial, organic physical chemistry, and molecular based materials. His research has led to significant improvements to these areas. His research interests are focused on soft and structural chemistry, self-assembly and crystallization, biomimetic systems, photo-responsive materials. His research encompasses metal and metal oxide preparations, naphthalimide based photo-responsive materials, and organic inorganic materials. He has his position as associate professor at the University of Sao Paulo since 2014 where founded the Laboratory of Nanotechnology and Process Engineering -NEP. He has undertaken projects with FAPESP (São Paulo Research Funding Agency) on these subjects and kept international and national academic collaborations.

Dr. Deuber Lincon da Silva Agostini is currently working as a Professor at the São Paulo State University - UNESP (Brazil), received his Master (2009) and PhD (2013) degree in Material Science from São Paulo State University - UNESP - POSMAT (Brazil). He has two periods in Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour -UPPA (France) one as an electrical materials engineer (2019) and the other as Visiting Professor (2020). Nowadays he works with the development of polymeric nanofibers with electrical properties obtained to electrospinning for the organic photovoltaic device (OPV), gas and piezoelectric sensors.

Dr. Anderson Luiz da Rocha e Barbosa is currently working as an Associate Professor at the Rural Federal University of Pernambuco – UFRPE (Brazil), Anderson Barbosa received his PhD in Physics from Federal University of Pernambuco – UFPE (Brazil) in 2009. Main research interests are quantum chaos, electronic transport and spintronic. The main contributions include analytical and numeric calculations of universal fluctuations of electronic and spin current interpreted in the framework of random matrix theory.

I am a Bachelor's degree in chemistry from Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte – Brazil (2012), Master's degree in analytical chemistry from State University of Campinas – Brazil (2014) and Doctor in Science (Analytical Chemistry – finalized in 2018) from State University of Campinas – Brazil. During the Master's degree, I developed a statistic procedure for optimization silica nanoparticles methods, applying these particles for the development of luminescent nanosensor. During the doctoral student, I developed research directed to synthesis and characterization of hybrid materials in nano- and microscale (molecularly imprinted polymer and fluorescent nanosensor) based in Stöber silica, magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4 and Fe2O3), and quantum dots (Cu2S and Cu2Te). Additionally, I participated in the Sandwich Doctoral Program (CNPq) for one year at the University of Ulm - Germany under the supervision of Dr. Boris Mizaikoff. I am currently a researcher at the Laboratory of Petroleum Research – LAPET (UFRN), where I develop growth inhibitors combined with nanostructures. Finally, in the last 3 years, I have published 9 articles in journals of relevant impact factor, describing the synthesis and application of new nanostructures. The application areas are analytical chemistry, the food industry, the pharmaceutical industry, and the oil industry.

Since 2014, she Adjunct Professor in the Institute of Marine Science at the Federal University of São Paulo - Brazil. He holds a master’s and PhD in Chemistry from the São Paulo State University (Unesp), Institute of Chemistry, Araraquara -Brazil. Developed a postdoctoral internship at the Centre for the Development of Functional Materials (CDMF) at the Federal University of São Carlos-Brazil and at the Chimie du Solide et Matériaux at the Institut des Sciences Chimiques de Rennes - ISCR, Université de Rennes 1, France. She has experience in nanotechnology, synthesis and characterization of advanced materials and nanostructured thin films. Operates in the development of multifunctional materials and biomaterials with an emphasis on optical properties for application in the photoelectrodes for solar cells; photocatalytics for application in the photodegradation of organic contaminants.

Professor Barakat is highly qualified in the field of Industrial Waste Management and Pollution Control, besides Catalysis and Nanotechnology Experience includes academic research works in Japan, Germany, the United States, and Saudi Arabia, as well as initiating and leading industrial research projects in Egypt, and jointly with the United States of America. He has published 135 papers in ISI Journals, 2 patents, 8 Book Chapters, and 55 presentations in International Conferences. His citation is about 7500 with H- index of 40. He was awarded many awards such as; KSA- ISESCO Environmental Management award-2019, Jeddah Prize of Creatives, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (2018), Annual Publications awards, KAU University, Saudi Arabia (2011-2018), Award of the Environmental Researches, Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Egypt (2003& 2013), King Hassan II Prize for Environment, Morocco (2008). He supervised more than 20 M.Sc. and Ph.D. theses, and established a new Laboratory for “Advanced Technologies for Wastes Treatment” in Department of Environmental Sciences, KAU.

Dr. Guillermo Valdes Mesa was Born in Havana, Cuba in 1962, graduated in Physics in 1985, working for the Microelectronics Industry, as head of final control investigations degradation production of electronic components, working for the Electronics Industry, department of reliability, characterization work performed Luma-Chroma plate worker Research Institute of Metrology, work Challenges of Metrology in Cuba in the era of nanotechnology. Work published in the ISO TC 229, ISO TC229 / IEC 113, required for conformity assessment of research and nano-scale productions Tool page. Master of Science. Currently my research is directed towards an analysis of the chains of traceability that are needed in the industrial revolution that we are experiencing the Convergences of technologies, which is approaching the Quantum revolution with the objective of the evaluation of conformity, of a sustainable way, with a minimum of environmental impact and with social responsibility.

Dr. Amal Kasry is currently the director of the Nanotechnology Research Centre (NTRC) at the British University in Egypt (BUE). She is an academic/ scientist with a wide range of international experience in Materials Science and Nano-Biotechnology. She received a fellowship for PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPIP), and got her degree from the Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany in 2006. Her major work was using surface plasmon fluorescence spectroscopy (SPFS) in biosensing applications; she developed a biosensor that was of 22 times higher sensitivity than the conventional SPFS sensors. She was then appointed in several places around the world in academic places like UConn Health Center, Cardiff University, and Austrian Institute of Technology, and Industrial places like IBM (USA) and Nitto Denko (Singapore). She joined the BUE in 2015, her current research is focusing on developing high sensitivity biosensors based on graphene. Dr. Kasry is an author of one book and 7 book chapters, a corresponding author and co-author of peer reviewed articles, and holds three patents. She is also a reviewer for AIP, ACS, Wiley, and a DAAD evaluator. She is the founder of the Egypt Group of the Max Planck Alumni Association (MPAA-Eg), and currently she is the Ambassador of the MPAA in Egypt.

Fatmaelzahraa Assem Abdelnaby was born on the 1st of October, 1986 in Alexandria, Egypt. She successfully got her Bachelor degree of Pharmacy, and Master Degree of Pharmaceutical Technology (Pharmaceutics) form Faculty of Pharmacy, Tanta University, Egypt. She also got Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy from College of the University of Cambridge as well as Total Quality Management for Healthcare Diploma (TQM) from American University in Cairo, Egypt. She has finished MBA (Major Marketing) from the Arab Academy for Science Technology & Maritime Transport, Alexandria, Egypt. During her academic years, she studied different areas of pharmacy such as pharmacology, pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry, Industrial pharmacy, analytical chemistry, organic, and inorganic chemistry. Her passion and researches are focused on nanotechnology applications in pharmacy. Lately she is a PHD candidate in pharmaceutics and industrial pharmacy department at the faculty of pharmacy, Cairo University, Egypt. She also participated in extracurricular activities, and charity works such as participating in several medical convoys that provided medicine for poor people, and also took part in blood donation campaigns launched by Resala Charity Organization, Egypt.

Dr. Bablu K. Ghosh has received his Doctor of Engineering (DE) from Graduate School of Engineering, Fukui University, Japan in 2004 in the global engineering program for international students (GEPIS) under Monbusho Scholarship. Earlier he did his undergraduate and masters from Rajshahi university, Bangladesh in Applied Physics and electronic as major. Currently he is working in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Program in the Faculty of Engineering, University Malaysia Sabah. He has 14 years of industry and 12 years of academic experience. He is specialized in optoelectronics and optical interaction with materials for energy conversion. Before joining UMS, he was engaged as a Radio Engineer, Scientific Officer, BAEC and Microwave planning Engineer in a telecom company. He is Author of about fifty (50) Journals and conference papers. He also attended several conferences in the USA, Japan, China, Indonesia, and Malaysia. He also wrote a book on advanced materials technology for opto-electronics applications.

Dr. Yahia CHERGUI is an assistant Professor in Electrical & Electronics Engineering Institute, Boumerdes Algeria. He has completed his PhD from Badji Mokhtar University in Annaba, Algeria. He did all his PhD work in Cardiff University in UK. His research field is Physics(condensed matter, and soft matter simulation by molecular dynamics). He has many published articles and international conferences. He has been serving as a referee with condensed matter journal (IOP), Energy journal (Elsevier), and American Journal of Modern Physics.

Dr. Kahouadji has a PhD in physics, option: physics of materials since April 2017, teacher researcher at A.Mira university of Bejaia, faculty of technology. He is working on nanomaterials based on rare earth orthophosphates in collaboration with two laboratories: Laser Department/ Nuclear Research Centre of Algiers (CRNA), Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, University of Belgrade.

Dr. Najoua Turki-Kamoun is a full Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis (FST) University of Tunis El Manar Tunisia. Her academic research focuses on Transparent conductive oxides (TCO), binary semiconductors; ternary and quaternary nanomaterials (powder and thin layers) for optoelectronic applications such as photocatalysis, gaz sensors, solar cells, UV and IR detectors. Nanomaterials and thin films are grown by different low cost techniques (spray pyrolysis, chemical bath deposition (CBD), spin coating, electrodeposition and hydrothermal). In the period 2013-2014 she occupied the post of General Director of Physico-Chemical Analysis Institute (INRAP) in the Technopole of Sidi Thabet. She was a vice President of AUF(Agency Union of Francophony) COMARES (for MAGHREB : 2013-2015). From 2013-2020, she was a representative of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on the board of directors of the National Metrology Agency (ANM). In 2016 she was elected a TWAS (The World Academy of Science) full member. She is a TWAS Membership Advisory Committee (MAC) in Physics (2018‐2022). Since 2015 she’s elected as ARA (American Romanian Academy of Sciences and Arts) member. And since 2018 she is an International UK Research and Innovation Peer Review.

Mouna Sellami received her Ph.D. degree in inorganic chemistry from the University of Sfax-Tunisia in 2020. Her thesis work focused on the synthesis of conductors inorganic polymers performed with the integration of lithium ions. In 2017-2018 she moved to the Le Mans University (France) where she is implementing different measurement techniques to investigate the effect of lithium ions on the development of the thermal and electrical properties of these materials.

Dr. Yilmaz Yurekli is an associate professor at Bioengineering Department, Manisa Celal Bayar University, Turkey, and he is a head of department since 2018. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2010, from Chemical Engineering Department of Izmir Institute of Technology, Turkey under supervision of Sacide Alsoy Altinkaya. Hi studied catalytic and filtration performances of the enzymatic membranes during his Ph.D. He worked in European Institute of Membranes, Montpellier, France for the synthesis and applications parts of the Ph.D. study. After his Ph.D., he has focused on the synthesis and characterization of organic-inorganic hybrid membranes and modelling of their performances in aqueous solutions. He has published papers (15), book chapters (3) and joined conferences (10) as an oral presenter and received total citation of 328. He has reviewed many articles (>20) as a reviewer.

Ibrahim Isik received his B.S. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from University of Gaziantep, Turkey, in 2012, M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the İnönü University, Turkey, in 2014 and 2019 respectively. Currently, he is an Assistant Prof. Dr. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in the İnönü University Turkey and his research interests include nanonetworks, molecular communication and neuro-spike communication, Artificial Neural Networks.

Dr. Ravindra Kumar Gupta earned his Ph.D. degree in Physics in 1997 from the Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, India. He studied electrical properties and battery characteristics of some composite electrolytes, which is a branch of Solid State Ionics. Since then, he is working on solid-state ionic materials (also known as solid electrolytes and superionic solids) and electrodes for batteries, solid oxide fuel cells, and dye-sensitized solar cells. His research work has resulted in 76 articles of international repute. Currently, he has a few research projects on his hands to work on dye-sensitized solar cell materials.

Prof. Hulda Shaidi Swai, a Nanotechnology Scientist, holds a PhD in Biomaterials, from Queen Mary's College, University of London, UK where she also worked as a Researcher for 9 years. In February 2021 was awarded the Nkwamwe Nkuruma award. A competitive regional award given to female who has excelled in Science. In October 2020 was awarded Oliver Tambo chair in Nanotechnology in relation with Biomedical health and Sustainable agriculture after a very rigorous competition of African Senior Professors. This is a five year program with funding of 1m USD. In August 2019 was awarded Head/ PI: Incubation Centre namely Data driven innovation incubation Centre (DDI) The Centre address Food and Nutritional Security in the region after a very stiff competition. With funding from IUCEA of 250,000. USD. In May 2018, Prof. Swai was appointed the President of the African Materials Research Society (AMRS) and in 2013 she was appointed as an Extraordinary Professor in University of Pretoria. In 2015, Prof. Swai joined NM-AIST and managed to acquire funds (USD 6 Million) from the World Bank for the establishment of the African Centre for Research, Agricultural Advancement, Teaching Excellence and Sustainability (CREATES) in Food and Nutritional Security in Africa which was established at the NM-AIST through the World Bank’s African Centers of Excellence (ACE II) initiative. The ACE II initiative aims at building training and research capacity in the region by training and raising a critical mass of specialized and skilled human capital that can use a multidisciplinary approach to ensure a sustainable environment, food and nutritional security. Prof. Swai is the CREATES Director at NM-AIST. The program aims to strengthening content, delivery, outputs and outreach for the MSc and PhD programs in Life Sciences and other related programs, with particular focus on core thematic areas of Sustainable Agriculture, Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Management; Food and Nutrition Sciences; and Health and Biomedical Sciences. These are also Departmental and CREATES pillars in the School of Life Science and Bioengineering (LiSBE) at NM-AIST. The CREATES program is geared to contribute to food and nutrition security in East Africa and Sub Saharan regions. This is a 5 program launched in the year 2016 and it is worth 6 million USD. Prior to joining NM-AIST, Prof. Swai has worked as a Senior Principal Researcher at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), in South Africa, where she led the Encapsulation and Delivery Research Group for 11 years. In this capacity, she proven her ability to independently formulate and execute research projects and implement scientific research programmes, both in public and private sectors. Prof. Swai also instituted and headed the Department of Science and Technology (DST)/ CSIR Pan-African Centre of Excellence in Applied Nanomedicine Research and Training. Professor Thomas is the Founder Director and Professor of the International and Interuniversity Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and also full professor of Polymer Science and Engineering at the School of Chemical Sciences of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala, India. He is an outstanding leader with sustained international acclaims for his work in Polymer Science and Engineering, Nano Materials, Polymer Nanocomposites, Elastomers, Polymer Blends, Interpenetrating Polymer Networks, Polymer Membranes, Green Composites and Nanocomposites, Nanomedicines and Green Nanotechnology. Dr. Thomas’s ground breaking inventions in polymer Nanocomposites, polymer blends, green bionanotechnological and nano-biomedical sciences, have made transformative differences in the development of new materials for automotive, space, housing and biomedical fields. In collaboration with India’s premier tyre company, Apollo Tyres, Professor Thomas’s group invented new high performance barrier rubber nanocomposite membranes for inner tubes and inner liners for tyres. Professor Thomas has received a number of national and international awards which include: Fellowship of the Royal Society of Chemistry, London, and Distinguished Professorship from Josef Stefan Institute, Slovenia, MRSI medal, Nano Tech Medal, CRSI medal, Distinguished Faculty Award, and Sukumar Maithy Award for the best polymer researcher in the country. He is in the list of most productive researchers in India and holds a position of No.5. Very recently, because of the outstanding contributions to the field of nano materials, Polymer Science and Engineering, Prof. Thomas has been conferred Honoris Causa (DSc) by the University of South Brittany, Lorient, France. Professor Thomas has published over 650 peer reviewed research papers, reviews and book chapters. He has co-edited 53 books published by Royal Society, Wiley, Wood head, Elsevier, CRC Press, Springer, and Nova etc. He is the inventor of 6patents. The H index of Prof. Thomas is 77 and has more than 26,000 citations. Prof. Thomas has delivered over 300 Plenary/Inaugural and Invited lectures in national/international meetings over 40 countries. He has established a state of the art laboratory at Mahatma Gandhi University in the area of Polymer Science and Engineering and Nanoscience and Nanotechnology through external funding form DST, CSIR, TWAS, UGC, DBT, DRDO, AICTE, ISRO, DIT, TWAS, KSCSTE, BRNS, UGC-DAE, Du Pont, USA, General Cables, USA, Surface Treat Czech Republic, MRF Tyres and Apollo Tyres. Dr. Manoj Shrivastava is currently working as a Principal Scientist (Soil Science) in at Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) New Delhi, India. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2008 from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, India with specialization in Soil Science. He did his postdoctoral research from University of South Australia, Adelaide, Australia with Prof. Nanthi Bolan. Prior to joining IARI he worked as Scientific Officer at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. Dr Shrivastava is well recognized for his research on soil remediation and plant nutrition, Dr Shrivastava has made significant contributions towards (a) Bioremediation of heavy metals (b) Dynamics of Engineered nanoparticles in soil plant system (c) P solubilizing microbe as bio-fertilizers (d) Soil pollution prevention and treatment, (e) Utilization of agro-industrial wastes. Dr Shrivastava has published over 50 research article in the journal of repute and obtained two patents. He serves as an Associate Editor on two international journals. Manoj has received a number of awards including prestigious Endeavour Research Award from Government of Australia. Currently he involved in the research on Environmental risk assessment of heavy metal contaminants, natural and engineered nano-materials, and distribution and speciation of contaminants and nutrients in major staple foods and soils and remediation of contaminated soils.

Dr. Anji Reddy Polu has completed his PhD at the age of 28 years from Dr. H S Gour Central University and postdoctoral studies from Sogang University, South Korea. Dr. Reddy currently working as HOD, Department of Physics, MREC (A), a premier engineering college in Hyderabad. Previously Dr. Reddy worked in VIT University and K L University as Assistant Professor. He has published more than 50 papers in reputed journals and has been serving as an reviewer for many reputed journals. He has given many invited talks and keynote speches in various countries in reputed international conferences. He received many awards and honours for his contribution in research on Energy storage devices and academics. Dr. Reddy having 3 patents for his Credit. Dr. Tushar Mukherjee is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Discipline of Chemistry at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2007 from the Department of Chemistry at IIT Bombay under the supervision of Prof. Anindya Datta. After a three years (2007-2010) postdoctoral experience from Columbia University Medical Center, he joined IIT Indore as an Assistant Professor. The current research focus of his group at IIT Indore includes optoelectronics of nanoparticles, luminescent self-assembled nanocomposites, sensing, and luminescent bio-marker.

Dr. Jayanta Kumar Bal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at Abhedananda Mahavidyalaya, Sainthia, Birbhum, West Bengal, India. Dr. Bal obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from SINP, Kolkata in 2011. He did his Post Doc. in the group of Prof. Alain Gibaud at Le Mans, France. Dr. Bal was an INSPIRE Faculty at CRNN, University of Calcutta. Then he joined the present employer on 2017. The research activities are going on using his DST INSPIRE grant and SERB Core Research Grant. These two major projects are based on Polymer Ultrathin Films. The author is specialized on the field of confined polymers. His group is also exploring the interactions between various biomolecules at air-water interface. He is an expert in probing soft materials assembly using X-ray Scattering technique (lab source as well as synchrotron source available all over the world).

Ms. Akriti Mishra obtained her Bachelor and Master’s in Chemistry in 2014 from Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, India. She received the University Gold Medal for securing first position in her Master’s degree. Subsequently, she joined the Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science for Ph.D. as a DST-INSPIRE research fellow. Over the past five years, her research interest is mainly focused on understanding nanoparticleprotein interaction using several spectroscopic and analytical techniques. She has studied the binding of important proteins with gold and silica nanospheres and characterized both the mono- (hard) and multi-layer (soft) protein corona formations on the nano-interfaces. She measures and models the thermodynamic energies of protein adsorption at ultralow concentrations.

Dr. Virendra Kumar Yadav, is currently working as an assistant Professor, in School of Life Sciences, Jaipur National University, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. He is has obtained his doctorate degree in Nanosciences, from School of Nanosciences, Central University of Gujarat, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India in 2019. He has done, M.Phil. in nanosciences, from Central University of Gujarat, M.Sc. in microbiology from H. N. B. Garwhal University, India and B.Sc. (H) in microbiology from Delhi University. He has been awarded “Young scientist award-2019” by VD Good, Hyderabad. He has published several papers in national and international journals of repute. He has filed five patents (one granted) and one design. His area of expertise involves, recovery of nanominerals from fly ash waste, incense sticks ash waste, nanobioremediation and wastewater treatment.
